Botox injections for TN Pain

Has anyone tried Botox injections for TN pain and if so were they successful?

As TN is progressive - some here have had some success to keep TN big pains at bay

Some - it did nothing - or made things worse

Put Botox in search box --- mannnnny postings here!

Hi, I did try Botox for my TN pain about 2 months ago. I did not have near the relief I had hoped. The affects lasted about 24 hours, then right back to the same old thing. My symptoms just keep getting worse and worse, with new ones popping up out of no where frequently.

I find I do get about 24-48 hours of relief from Novocaine injections directly into the painful areas. It is so nice just to be normal, even if it's only for a day or so.

Good luck if you try the Botox. My Neurologist told me that I can have these injections every three months, so in a few weeks I will be going for another round.

I had it. Unfortunately it wasn’t successful. Thankfully, it didn’t make symptoms worse! I think, if anything, my pain meds were able to make the pain subside more tan usual. Coincidence? Maybe so. Because it didn’t cause more pain, I say go for it! Maybe it will help you! I sure hope so!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I had MVD surgery 4 years ago and it was successful but now it has come again in the lower jaw on the same side. It was so nice being normal again. I almost forgot what living in fear of the next shock was like. Thank you, I do not want to do anything to make the pain worst, but, I would like to get some relief from it. I am now taking 1000mg a day of carbamazapene and then I will have to try another med. to go along with it. I hate, hate, the way it makes me feel all the time.
