I am very sorry to read your post. I know what it feels like to have hope in an unknown dr. only to be disappointed. I am going to ask my next dr. for Pamelor because that is supposed to help with neuropathies, which is what you have as well. Any thing that slows down the Central nervous system helps take away pain, so the Cymbalta will help a bit too...I have to tell you this however. I worked as a psychotherapist for over 7 yrs on an inpatient unit in a mental health hospital and I saw it over and over again, where patients wanted more klonipin and the drs , said no because it is addictive...there are 2 properties to addiction 1) does it cause tolerance, i.e, do you need more and more to get the same effect and 2) does it cause withdrawals? Klonipin has both these properties... meaning... yes, you are right that it would help.....but only for a while.... then you would be in the same boat..... then you would want more..... it would help for a while... but then... you get the idea...evidently ketamine cream helps as well, I am going to ask my next dr. for this....I wish I was a dr. and could write my own scripts, lol... anyways, my heart goes out to you, because now I know being in pain is the worst thing in this world, and I hope you find some relief soon!!!!!!!
Thank you! It knda looks like we are all just on our own out here. What a way to live.
well, I saw Dr. Casey, he is the co author of striking back and he told me the best thing for me to take is tegretol, 2nd best, trileptal, 3rd... Topamax, then I could also try the tricyclic antidepressants, like Pamelor, etc...I tried trileptal and Topamax and violently got sick on both, plus I didn't like how stupid I felt on it. I am trying not to get depressed, but I can tell I am getting depressed. This has been life changing for me. I used to think about superfiscial fun stuff, like jewelry, making my hair look nice, etc... now all I think about it getting rid of pain...I read your words and think to myself, what you are going through is what I will be going through in another year, because I have only had this for 11 months, and I know its just going to get worse... When I saw Dr. Casey I was taking 300 mg of neurotin and he told me, yes, that works a bit for what I have, but there are others that work much better, and he rattled off the main 3 and I stated above. If you can handle the side effects , I think your best bet would be to try the trileptal or Topamax.... Can you still function? I mean with the pain, are you able to work, etc??? I want to hear more from the veterans out there, I would love to hear stories how they have been living with this for 15 , 20 yrs and somehow it gets better.... It would certainly give me more hope and optimism..Consider yourself virtually Hugged a great big Hug as much as that helps I know not a lot .
that's very good to know Cleo!!! Maybe "Me" is so close to pain relief and just needs 600mg more of the Neuronitin. I did read that these meds take away pain only if you hit the magic amount of meds. Its not like a little bit takes a little bit of pain away, its an all or nothing thing!!!! Good news for her, now its getting a dr. to give her just 600mg more....
Well I’ve been told by a few Drs that 3000 mg of Neurontin is a very high dose and they don’t want to go up on it. I’m kinda scared it could be dangerous for by brain too. Ugh! What to do…
Yeah, you need to go with extreme caution. I know I read on here some where that someone took to much Neurontin and landed in the hospital because of it. Cant remember who or where I read it... I would ask the moderator, "Red", he is very knowledgeable about Everything. Not to say Cleo is wrong, but all these meds are nothing to play around with either.. I got a 100 degree temp and threw up violently half hr after taking a very small amount of Topamax. My doctor told me its impossible to get that temp from Topamax, and the pharmacist told me it is not impossible, it is rare , but it could have been a signal from my body of a very rare but dangerous reaction... so, who knows....
