Anyone here from North Dakota?

I will be moving to ND because my husband was offered a job there and I was wondering how does one deal with TN and the North Dakota winters?

Go up to member map and stretch it a lot…you will see only a couple have marked it there…but not everyone has map marked. Good luck!

I'm here in ND - Bismarck area and working on starting a support group here. Hope you can join us. I'll message you too. Welcome!

My husband will be working in Minot so I was also wondering how the doctor situation is there as well.

There are no neurosurgeons in ND that are experienced with TN and my neurologist is nice and listens but she's definitely not a TN expert. I had to do most of the research on my own and give her suggestions. I had MVD in July in Michigan to Dr. Casey. I wouldn't let anyone here touch me and I doubt they would have anyway since no one knows much about TN. I'm not sure about neurologists in Minot but I haven't heard of any that are experienced with TN there either.

I have a few weeks before we leave, I might see if the neuro can squeeze me in for gamma or mvd.

You also asked about our winters here. Wind always bothered me some but the cold wasn't that bad for me so I'm probably not the best one to give advice on that. We definitely have some days that are very cold with a raw wind. I know there have been people on here talking about wearing scarves on their faces to help. I think there have been other suggestions too. Maybe try a search on cold wind or winter to find more discussions.

Also, if you're looking for more ND members, on the members tab click on the advanced search and type ND in the city, state. There aren't many of us but you'll find a few more.

you might not want to rush into gamma -- it doesn't last long - and can make future MVD harder to get high good percentage.

You also might not want to rush into MVD---get the best -- as far as you have to fly or drive---- somebody like Dr. Casey that has done thousands of MVDs!

I live in Atlanta so I have already lined up a surgeon, he was waiting for me to make my decision and my husband's job offer was Monday so now I really have to decide what to do. When my husband starts his job he won't be home much because he will be in the oilfields and right now he has a job with regular hours and the timing is perfect right now. Just need to make up my decision.

do it now then so you can be in a familiar place to recover. i lived in minot while in the af, but left in 88. i hear it is way different with the oil boom. with that many new people in the area and not having the infrastructure, i doubt seeing a doctor will be easy

Thanks for the advice!
