I have had TN and fibro for many years…my TN does occasionally make my face (whichever side is effected swell a bit at times). Anyhow, I woke up this morning with a HUGE knot basically up under my cheekbone…swollen face and horrid pain…I am seriously not sure if it is my TN or fibro! Anyone have experience with this? I know I am in flare, so it is possible it is my TN (atypical bilateral type ll), but is it possible that this is fibro in my face? I have not ever had it in my face previously. I sure hope this makes a lick of sense, as I am typing it with one eye closed and with only one hand, as the other I am massaging that darn knot! Yikes.
I too have both but do not have those symptoms. I do have Atypical TN, I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you. I remembered that I will occasionally get knots under my chin during a TN flare…that feel the same…this not does not feel like a fibro one, so I am thinking TN…I am in full flare…upsetting after several months of minor flares and remission cycles…but, I will battle it back! Thanks for the kindness, md…
Hi Saber
I haven’t had a knot like that but I do get knots in other areas. When I’m in a flare I get Shaitsu massage, it targets the CNS, and is the one true complimentary care regimen that works wonders for me. I even get waves of bliss during one of these treatments and that just makes everything better, even the TN pain.
Bellalarke
Ah yes, Bellalarke, we are again on the same page…I recently left Shaitsu for traditional Thai (stretching, massaging, walking, etc.), it has helped me tremendously! I have an appt. this week, yippee!!
Knots are awful, thank goodness the facial one has almost gone away…

Hope the knots in your face are doing better. I have been getting what I call “rocks” for years from fibro. Just wake up with them, mostly on back and hips but many years ago when I had trouble with TMJ I had them in jaw area too. Hope you are doing well and are rock free!
I’m having this exact symptom currently. Knot right in the cheek. I have ATN and fibromyalgia as well.
