I’ve been on meds for TN, Atipical TN and AD for 15 years. They all cause serious issues with mental “fog”, memory and word recall. I recently read that the antidepressant drug Effexor can effectively replace gabapentin based drugs and doesn’t cause memory problems. Has anyone tried Effexor and how effective has it been against your pain???
I’d be very interested to hear feedback on Effexor. My memory has gone to hell!
Hey Kim,
I too was diagnosed with atypical about the same amount of time ago. Trileprol is what I’ve landed on as the most effective drug for me. I have been on that for the last 7 years. My mental fog started a few years back. The effexor started about six years ago. All I found it did for me was raise my blood pressure. DO NOT stop taking that col turkey. You will get very ill. When they put me on Topiramate is when I had the worst memory issues. I hope this helps.
look at the other memory post --- I got Ritalin from my neurologist - low dose extended relief, and I could have energy and more IQ! It was added to my trileptal.
Yes, thanks! I’m following the other discussion too…(((:
I never thought about Effexor xr and my memory. But I have been taking it for six years along with other meds for blood pressure thyroid Insulin for diabetes and Trileptal for TN. But now that I think about it there has been a significant change in my memory ! I tend to only manage one thing at a time and can be easily distracted. I forget things and my family has noticed I am sometimes just not tuned in to things. I just chalk it up to the Trileptal.
I’m a lil late but just wanted to add to this discussion while I can function. I weaned myself off Trileptal and the pain med around November but I Still have memory loss, easily distracted, lethargic. I drink the energy drink sugar-free Rock star it gives me the energy I need to function. Sometimes I only take a “shot” glass amount several times throughout the day other times the whole can has no effect! But it sure helps overalll
