Any one ever had surgery on both sides at once?

First let me say that I get my medical care at a VA medical center. I seem to have TN on both sides of my face though this is the first time I have alternated sides during the same episode. Wondering what are the chances both sides can be fixed at once...waiting on a newer MRI before scheduling already approved surgery.

Because of the location of entry for surgery, not possible to do both sides at once.
I have bilateral TN, left side mvd coming up in 2 weeks, right side in a year if needed.
Your body needs time to heal, despite it being a minimal risk surgery, it’s still brain surgery, invasive and traumatic to the body.
Hope this helps, Mimi

Wow! I too suffer both sides, I've not really thought about surgery as yet as it seems here in the UK not much is known about the disease or maybe my GP is limited on his knowledge. Are you actually going to have an operation to stop the pain ?

That seems like it wouldn’t work out. Besides, having had two mvd’s on the same side, I can tell you that you definitely want a side to be able to lay on. I have a hard enough time sleeping and recovering from just one side. I can’t imagine how you’d sleep with surgery on both sides.

Wow, had not thought about not being able to lay on one side, I always lay on my side LOL. Good to know, thank you.

Dallas, here’s a link to microvascular decompression surgery ( mvd).

Have a look through the rest of the site as well, lots of TN info.

I’m having this surgery because my TN became resistant to meds on my left side since Sept.
( I have both TN 1&2 on my left.) it’s a very personal decision, one made after much research!

Mimi- did you make a utube video about TN?

There is a group tab above -- find the UK group and get some local info perhaps : )

No, no you-tube video…LoL
But I think I know the one you’re thinking of…

Dallas, you need to seek better care. Most GP's are limited about TN, it's a rare illness. I am my GP's first ever and he is 55. But, your neuro should know. Mine is very knowledgeable. I am a candidate for surgery if I cannot be managed any longer by meds.
