Afraid of wind?

Hi Everyone, I was recently diagnosed with TN and I'm so glad to find this forum! I'm on 500mg carbamazapine daily right now which seems to control my pain well when I stay indoor. However, I have been afraid of going out, especially in a windy day ever since I got TN. I have to wrap my entire head with scarf before going out as wind can trigger the pain. Has anyone else has this fear for wind? Shall I increase my medicine dosage to a level that I will be fine with the wind? Thanks very much!

I have a severe fear of the wind even if im having a good day im terrified if I let it touch me I will end up with attacks. I went outside today in 75 degree weather with a hood on my head ( people tend to look at me funny). The sad thing is most of the things that are going to trigger your pain are things you can not avoid. Therefore you want to make sure you are at a dose that controls your attacks to the best of their ability. I do not know how recently you were started on 500mgs but it took me about a month for my medication to be effective. I started at 200 mgs and am now up to 1200 of oxcarbazepine. I wish you luck and its takes some messing around with your dr and the meds to get at a good dose. My shocking pain is controlled but I have a 24/7 burning/aching pain that increases if wind, water, makeup any of that touches my face. Good luck I hope you find something that helps :)

Hi and welcome...... I was able to keep my meds lower by having my dr. call in a prescription / lidocaine patches and lidocaine cream - I put them on my face when needed for extra relief.... Make sure to check with dr. when going up or down on these meds...and watch for undesirable side effects.

Hi and welcome to the group, sorry you need to be here.

If it is very cold and windy I now use buff headwear, king of like a soft ski mask thing. Sorry for the vague description but if you google the name you will see what I mean.
Someone here suggested it and I find it works well for me as my pain is in the lower half of my face. Sometimes I just use a scarf but get tired of having to hold it up to my face.

Best wishes finding something that works for you.

Hugs
Trish

Hi

Welcome to the group

Wind is one of my triggers ad I have started wrapping pashmina around my head and face. looks kind of strange but it helps avoid trigger. If I could not go out when windy I would never be able to leave house LOL

Ann

Hi Sophia,
Wind isnalso my trigger and it does not have to be a strong wind. It can be slightest breeze. Yesterday was such a beautiful day ventured out with my daughter for plants. A mkstake wimd triggered my Tn. Even inside the slightest of timy cool, air breeze is not good. So no you are not alone with this as a trigger. It can be one of so many triggers unfortunately. Covering up is a good way, but it just seems to slither thru the cracks anyway.
My Best
Joanne
