2.5 months after gamma knife - how do I know if its working?

Hi - its been 2 and half months since my gamma knife procedure and constant folks are asking "is it working?" I dont know...I had a few days in a row with ZERO pain, then the most intense episode (as bad as the first day) rocked my world again. Every since, it has been on/off.

I am trying to keep a log, but I swear that darn thing is trigger itself. Any advice here?

When I had the first gk done, the pain eposodes were really strong when the “radiation” turned on. I could feel it burning and my face would swell a bit. Over time, the radiation “on” time was a smaller window of time and the height of pain, burning and face swelling was smaller. Little by little, I began to have more time of zero pain and it was then that the meds were taken down slowly. I don’t know which is harder Albee, the pain or these awful meds!

Thank you Lynda! I am very ready to tamper down the meds as I am so sick of looking for lost/misplaced items and showing up late for meetings/appts. But I def feel "burning" sensation. what was your timeframe

Hi,

Well, I had Gamma Knife surgery at the end of October, 2011. Initially, I still had fairly regular episodes

of pain. Then, the pain disappeared; virtually gone. Unfortunately, the pain has returned and is worse

than before. It has moved from the upper part of my face to my jaw. I didn't think the pain could be any

worse than it was before, but it is so much worse this time I am devastated.

There is another weird thing I have been experiencing - my tongue on the affected area has been numb.

I don't have advice for you, but would like to keep in touch to see how you are and if you have any suggestions

for me. I don't want to have the brain operation, but it may be my only option at this point.
