10 year old son with Atypical TN

Been in hospital since Thursday morning. I just got home and son is there with his Mom. Stephen had a spinal tap yesterday morning. There is no physical reason for him having these pains. Got a new diagnosis of migraine and have started migraine medication. His pain has been a lot better, not on any type of pain meds right now. New Nuerologist says they do not think it is TN so we are stopping neurontin. This is just a crazy roller coaster ride.

Larry,
I hope the migraine medicine will work. I do hope he does not have TN. Migraines can be rough but having both severe migraines and TN, I would choose migraines any day.
Please keep us posted. I am glad he is doing a lot better and I hope it continues.
Liz

I’m so glad to hear that his pain has been a lot better. As Liz has said below, I also hope he does not have TN. I don’t have migraines, I did have extremely bad heads though when I was taking high dose meds and that was bad enough. You and his Mom must feel severely tired out with all of this, so remember to take very good care of yourselves too.

We left the hospital on Monday. They are treating for atypical migraines. The new neuro does not believe he ever had ATN. All MRI’s show now compression of the nerve. He has been pain free since Friday and we have Zomig to prevent any migraines from starting. I pray that we finally have a correct diagnosis.

At last Larry, pain free time. Best wishes to Stephen & you two as parents.

Hi Larry,
How is Stephen doing? Now that you have an MRI that shows compression, what is the doctor’s recommendation?
Liz

MRI’s show absolutely no physical cause for his pain. We went back to a different hospital because they original hospital refused to admit us. The new diagnosis is ice pick headaches with atypical migraines. He has been pain free since 4/9/10 due to the new medication.

Larry,
I’m praying for your little guy. I’m simply saddened that a child at such a young age has to endure such pain. It’s difficult enough as an adult. One of my twin boys suffers migraines as much as 4 days per week and has endured them since age 3. He use to cry and say, “Mommy, there’s rocks in my head!” We’ve been travelling to children’s hospitals now for 12 years with little relief. I’m very sorry to hear about Stephen. Please know that I care. Blessings, Stacy

In addition: I hope Stephen remains pain-free and the meds continue to help him!!!
