Who all has tried Gralise and what side effects?

I read on the "side effects" group about a new Neurontin that is time released called "Gralise." Have any of you who have taken this medicine get any intestional problems with it? I have ulcers, IBS and grastritis (compliments of a perscription anti-inflammatory I no longer take!). Neurontin is the ONLY thing that gets completely rid of my eye pain. But I had to stop due to the severe GI pain I get from it. I see it goes up to 1800 mg./day, I previously received great results at only 300 mg/day. I'm on Lyrica now and it helps, however, my eyes burn/ache EVERY DAY. I was thinking that if I get 300/mg day at once, if it somehow is time released it wouldn't hurt my GI tract so much, but it does go through the system all at once? That could cause a problem for me, maybe? Thanks for your help, all my dear friends!!!!

Sue, your difficulty with time-release Gabapentin (Neurontin) may involve interactions between this med and anything else that you take for your GI tract problems. What other meds are you on?

The negative impact of Gralise on your system might be reduced by spacing out your daily dose in three pills (morning, noon, evening). Have you discussed this option with the prescribing doctor?

I take also Carvidilol for high blood pressure and Levoxyl for low thyroid. I was taking this before with Gabapentin. I see my neurologist in a few weeks and will discuss this with her. Before I was taking Gabapentin 100 mg. pill three times a day and had problems with that. On the website for Cralise it says to take all your pills at once with dinner. Possibly Neurontin might work better than generic Gabapentin? My GI tract is a mess but better than it used to be, thanks to not eating anything spicy or too many tomato based products. Even if I have some chocolate it hurts after at one spot in my lower intestines where the ulcers are bad. I also take Sustenex daily which has helped. If I could find some eye drops that help with the pain (seeing my eye doctor in December) I wouldn't change the Lyrica, but my eyes are SO SENSITIVE that the eye drops I took a few years ago for pain burned like crazy (I tried two different drops). I just need new eyeballs. The funny thing is, after I saw my eye doctor and she said my eyes had severe conjunctiviis from dry eyes (TN? and desert and wind.....), I started putting in eye drops four times a day. After two days, I had one period of about three minutes with no eye pain at all. Then it came back. What a wonderful three minutes!!!

Sue, it would appear that you may be hyper-sensitive to some meds commonly used with TN. We see that in a number of members of this site. I would also wonder if you’ve been conclusively worked up for H Pilori bacterial infection relating to your ulcers.

I think in this instance that you’re going to be better served by a detailed consult with your Neurologist, than by my digging into drug interaction databases. Our first rule here echoes that of the medical profession, even though we aren’t doctors: first do no harm.
