What i hate and what i am thankful for this holiday season (and everyday)

Well said Scott. I HATE THAT I HAVE TN, but I'm thankful it found me friends like you, and so many others here.

Sounds like you have a great deal to be thankful for in your mom, and she's given you a really positive attitude in life. I know how tough it is for you, believe me (especially at this time of year) so take extra care of yourself too at this time. Thinking of you, and your family, best wishes, Suzy.

Scott, I hate that I have TN. My son, like your mom went ahead of me in death, and like your mom, my son showed me a way to be strong through his own life choices, especially near the end. He was tapped into our creator, so he laughed often, even in pain and talked about how life on earth is just a little while compared to eternity.
Usually, it’s the child who says, “good genes”. When I am very down with TN, I think to myself that the same genes that made my son are the very genes I posess (well, I guess at least half of them), but the same creator is here for everyone. Anyway, imagining TN in a positive spin as often as possible makes the condition much more bearable.
Thank you Scott for sharing, and my condolences to you and your loved ones.

Hi laural,

Thanks for your condolences and for sharing. It is very hard to have a child pass before you. My wife had a son also that died and it is very tough on her. I'm am happy you have found positive spins once in a while. A good and positive oulook is good medicine, at least it has worked for me.

Scott

Laural, How brave was your son and I am sure that was partly due to his Mum xxx

Well, I have a great counselor who has been a real blessing helping me to come to terms with the loss. Life is good.

An excellent counsellor, professional or just a very good friend is worth their weight in gold xx

Scott,

First of all, I am so sorry that you are going to lose your mum soon. It is horrible knowing and waiting. Keep on giving her all the love and support and tell her that there are many people also sending love to her. It sound as if she is comfortable, well loved and taken good care off. I think of you as a family and send you my thoughts of comfort.

Just reading on your blog you have already given me comfort.

I just read that you have short term memory and comprehension problems - I have that too but thought it was because of brain surgery I had!. I sometimes stumble over my words and forget words. I also forget names, but recall them 5 minutes later. I sometimes have to describe something, I know what it is but I cant put a name to it!

What a wonderful way to put things in perspective, I guess. I only wish I could be that positive. I had a mother that was so negative. My Dad was positive, but we lost him way to soon. Your Mother will always be in your heart. She knows what you are going through. She sounds like a wonderful mother. Bless you ad her both. Sending you healing thoughts and vibes along with lots of prayers at this difficult time in your life.

Riana and santafered,
Thank you both for the wonderful comments and and prayers, We did lose her but both her and I had come to terms with it. She left us with many good memories an a positive attitude which has gotten me through many rough times. A positive attitude is good medicine for me and helps me fight this terrible monster! Again thank you and I hope you have many pain free days ahead.

Sincerely

Scott

Aaaw…nicely said Scott. Even tho my dad and I never agree on many things…he’s a tough old coot!! THAT’S where I get my stubbornness from and I’m not givin up without a fight!! It’s where I get my strength from to get thru this…

I can tell your dad was a good influence by your attitude and wise words in your post. we all have to be stubborn and a fighter so this monster doesn't beat us. keep up the good fight and advice!

Jamie,

Thank you,

Scott

Thanks for the great message that makes us laugh and tear up. I hope you have been doing alright, and that you are keeping the light of your mother strong and bright.

I am thankful for this site too, and all the positive people on here who make this terrible condition a little bit more bearable. Every little bit counts, and it all adds up.

I have one specific question though, and how do we know or where did you find out TN had a relationship with short-term memory and comprehension? I am interested because I myself feel that my short-term memory has declined, which sucks as I’m trying to master Mandarin Chinese! I haven’t given myself any excuses though, but if there is a documented relationship, maybe I could be a little easier on myself. Well, I should just learn to do that anyway, and I am getting better as I meditate more and more. I would also like to know if this also is a progressive state, i.e. our short-term memory will get worse and worse as our pain does. Is that what the current thinking is? Or am I just being paranoid. Is it that TN is the cause of the memory problems, or is it that TN leads to other things, like Alzheimer’s, that are the causes of the memory problems?

I know you might not have answers to these, but it seems you are a wise, gracious, and generous person, so I thought I would give it a try before I go down that internet rabbit-hole.

Thanks, My mom and late wife are always with me in spirit and are helping
fight this.

I am thankful for this site too, and all the positive people on here who
make this terrible condition a little bit more bearable. Every little bit
counts, and it all adds up.

I am in relapse right now and have been for awhile now. I do find that
being in a hot tub/spa or in a bathtub gives temporary relief. I shower
also helps.

I found out about the short term memory loss and comprehension when I was
reading and couldn’t remember what I just read and understand when I
finally remembered after rereading it, sometimes several times.

I along with several others on this site contribute it to the meds we take.
Mine is Gabapentin I think. I am not a doctor so these are my opinion only.

I don’t know if the memory issue is progressive or not but right now mine
is actually getting better for now.

I don’t know if TN leads to other things, I don’t think it does. TN affects
the nerve trigeminal nerve and Alzheimers affects the nerve brain cells.

I believe from my experience that as the pain worsens I think more about
fighting the pain and less about memory and compression at the time of
attacks

I am thankful for this site too, and all the positive people on here who

Feel free to message me anytime and also keep posting on the site, there is
a lot of smart people that know how you free and have a lot of insight and
knowledge of TN and ways to fight it.

Take care and good luck

Scott

I don’t believe its TN causing memory issues directly, it’s the medication. Many of the meds we use have memory or comprehension changes listed as possible side effects. I personally believe some learning issues are from the pain, too. It can be hard to think when you hurt like this.
