Trileptal

This is my next option. What are the side effects? I can’t be completely wiped out because I care for a small child all day.

So please tell me your experiences

Kismet,

To read authoritative information on Trileptal side effects, you can look up the drug on http://www.rxlist.com. From patient reports here on Living with TN and elsewhere, Trileptal (Oxcarbamazepine) appears to be better tolerated than Tegretol, with fewer side effects overall.

Can Trileptal be taken with Neurontin - as an add on?

I've heard from patients who were prescribed both Trileptal and Neurontin -- generally at lower doses for both drugs than would have been used if the medication was the only treatment. There are other "add ons" too -- Baclofen, Flexeril (a mild muscle relaxant), Valium (a tranquilizer), and anti-anxiety drugs that have a cross-action on pain sensitivity. Consult our neurologist.

Thanks for the info, Red.

Kismet,

Hi, I have tried most anti -drugs as well. Currently taking 2am 2pm (300mg) the generic, which has controlled my type 2 fairly well. Did not take much time to progress to that level either. Of course your results will be different than mine. Red is correct as my Nero states it is most tolerable, and it was to date so far for me. I also have always had a very low tolerance for any drugs period. I have on hand tramadol but rarely use it.

I can now even spell the generic but rarely refer to it:)! Other than needing to get my refills…

Best of luck,

My neuro has me take all of my dosage at one time in the evening thus it hits me while I sleep, and enough is residual that it usually carries me thru the day, until recently :..( I take lyrica. I am needing to probably see him to change my meds cause it's been really bad after a long period of maintenance. I understand about kiddos, so tough. blessings~~

Out of all the meds I have taken for this disease, Trileptal has been the best regarding side effects. The first couple times i took it, it made me a little tired but not groggy or loopy like a narcotic. I would take it at first at night to see how you react. but I was fine on it and was able to work drive and do anything. start with a low dose and work your way up. I do not take it anymore because I took it for a long time and it just stopped working for me but when it did work it was a great medication. Good Luck!

I am on a low dose of Trileptal and Neurontin. Both make me tired. I too care for a small child most of the day. I want off one of them so I am less tired because I don't like the idea of adding a stimulant. I couldn't tolerate the Tegretol. I was told that Trileptal is the new Tegretol.

I was switched to this back in Oct of last year when I developed a reaction to tegretol. I was pretty good for me...main side effect for me was increased appetite, weight gain, and leg swelling. But I was also on high doses of neurontin at the same time which also have the same side effects. Good Luck!
