Just thought I would share and see if anyone else had relief from this drug.
I have been having a bad month. Sever bilateral TN attacks. One lasting for 15 minutes. Never had bilateral at the same time before. Could be the weather change as that seems to be the time I get hit. I ended up in the hospital twice in the last two weeks. I get my usual solumedrol treatment and asked the same questions. The doctor was very refreshing on the last visit and admitted she knew very little about MS. The nurse however knew quite a bit. After talking with the doctor she asked if I was willing to try Toradol. She explained it is a anti inflammatory drug and non narcotic. I went for it and it really seemed to help. I don't know if it was just this attack but I usually have lower grade pain for a few days to weeks after my attacks. After the Toradol the pain left in 20 minutes. The bilateral pain came back last night but was low. Perhaps a 4 out of 10. I took a Tordol 10mg tablet and within the hour it was gone.
I am not sure if a lot of people with MS and TN take this med but would like to hear from others.(not that there are many of us) I wont be able to see my neurologist for a few weeks.
I have now been taking Toradol for 3 months. I only take it when I start to get a attack. It makes the pain go away. I asked my neurologist why this is working and he couldn't give me a answer. Very strange but wonderful. I hope it holds out!
I have not heard of this drug. How did this medicine work out for you?
I was prescribed Gabapentin (spelling not sure of) the first time I had TN in 2010. It seemed to work back then. I'm having TN pain again and having a difficult time. I think that stabbing pain is gone, but I do have a rug-burn-like pain on the side of my face.
Hopefully you had relief from the bilateral TN. I can't imagine what that was like.
The Toradol is only for attacks.(for me at least) You cant take it for more than 5 days without getting a ulcer. However it took the pain away very quickly. Its a non narcotic anti inflammatory drug. I have been told it works wonders but just for a short amount of time. It seems for me that my TN attacks come with the RRMS. Sometimes they can be non present for weeks to a month or sometimes two or three but then they come. I am hopeful that this drug will at least get me over the initial bad attacks. I wanted to share it with others as in the ER the pain went away in minutes.(that has never happened before)
I just discovered this wonderful site yesterday and your post, Erik, is perfect timing. I am from the Milwaukee area but am currently in Germany visiting my sister until March 1. I've been in remission since last May but TN reared its ugly head on Jan. 9. I always take a maintenance level of 2/day TegretolXR 400 so went to three and now four and I'm losing the battle. I guess I need to try and find a German neurologist (and quick, before I land in the ER).
I was given Toradol in the hospital and it was only a few mins before I felt major relief. From a 10 plus to a 4 in 2mins and then a zero. The pills do not work as well but keep a full blown off. The down side is you can not take it for long. It will cause a ulcer so a week max or I am told.
I can't even imagine being in a different county and dealing with a attack. It takes me a few months to see my neurologist here. If you get a chance let us know how you made out. I hope all went well!

Thanks for checking in. I can give you a longer version of this nightmare later, but for now, I have exhausted all possibilities of getting either TegretolXR or Toradol (or its generic, Ketorolac) in Germany. I am now working on France (3 hr drive). If this bombs I will be on a flight home Sunday. URGENT question: If im able to find it in France, my German neurologist is willing to write the script. What mg. level do you take or does it only come in one?

Oh my lord. The mg I take is 10mg of Ketorolac every 6hrs for facial pain. If the pain is bad go to a hospital and ask for a IV of it. For me that have brought relief in minutes. I also took a infusion of steroids(solumedrol). For me with MS and TN it worked and got me out of pain for a while. You might think about Vitamin B and D. There is a bunch of info on this site. I can't say is stopped the problem but it seemed to help and sometimes even a little help is welcome. All my best and if you need anything I will try to help to the best of my abilities. I hope you get home quickly of at least get some meds.
