Very sorry to hear that Brad. My mother had Parkinsons, it is difficult to treat, more of an art than a science. The good news is that you may have many, many years before symptoms become very limiting.
The best thing that she did was work out several times per week, and she had a personal trainer that stayed with her for years, until the end. It made a huge difference in her mobility and quality of life. You are very active so that is great.
Yes, our medical system is broken. Hopefully the rise of functional medicine, and young people that want to go a new route, will open up a new kind of medicine for all of us.
Hi Ziggy. We are still at the diagnosis of “Parkinsonism” with my situation. I am having more cognition tests and other tests scheduled. As you know since your mother had Parkinson’s, there is no true test for Parkinson’s, just a determination at some point based on the overall symptoms. Speaking of our medical system, I attended a Michael J. Fox webinar the other day regarding better and earlier ways to diagnose Parkinson’s. The research physician’s comment was basically, “The sooner we can diagnose it, the sooner we can treat it with drugs.” I immediately wondered is most of his research funding was coming from Big Pharma. In the meantime while conventional medicine is passing me around, I am experiencing a little less brain fog and slurring as I am on the Wahl’s Diet and have added CoQ10 and a couple of other supplements to my diet. Trying to give my mitochondria a healthier go of it. As mentioned, I am a strong believer that cell dysfunction is ultimately the cause of all disease and just throwing drugs at symptoms is not the best way to approach disease. (I am not a doctor, just a former biology teacher.) Good luck to you going forward.
Brad, Great to hear that you are doing better, and are apparently in almost complete remission from TN right now?! Kudos for your diet changes, that is not an easy road at all! Do you take any additional vitamin B12? or eat organ meats?
I completely agree that throwing drugs at diseases is not a great solution in the long run, and much more work needs to be done to find the true causes and cures, not just treatment of symptoms. Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical industry has tons more money than anyone else to throw at research and marketing. I recently read a book Our Daily Meds, regarding this situation, that was absolutely shocking and nauseating.
I’m doing okay with topical lidocaine, and a new crown (along with good self-care and avoiding neurotoxins). Just trucking along and trying to avoid systemics if at all possible.
