Does anyone with ATN experience cluster headaches? I don't know if the two are related but I have had successful relief from the TN with Nortripyline at about 50 mg per day.
Recently, I've been experiencing headaches that are very different from the TN and resemble cluster headaches. Online research has indicated that these headaches are related to the Trigeminal Nerve so I wonder if the two are related.
I've seen reports that Cluster tends to be co-morbid with TN, as is Migraine. The rule of thumb is that correlation is not cause, of course. And I've also talked with Cluster patients who seemed to be dealing only with that pattern of symptoms, somewhat distinct from those of either Type I or Type II TN.
In both cases, be aware that there is an anti-migraine drug now in Stage II trials which is being cross-tested against TN. This medication targets a gene which is specific to the trigeminal nerve system, and might offer an effective intervention against TN attacks, that has fewer systemic side effects.
