Tegretol

I found this:

'A sustained release formulation, such as is provided by the present invention would smooth the fluctuations in plasma drug concentrations and diminish concentration related side effects of the drug, which is sometimes close to a daily dosage of up to 2000 mg.'

Graph.

I wish OxtellarXR were available in the UK.

I've taken Tegretol since the beginning of my illness (9 months or more) and it has been a consistently good drug where others have failed. I got rid of the electric shocks at only 200mg and they have never come back. I do have low-grade residual pain which we try other drugs on, but so far no luck. I am currently on Tegretol 600mg + Gabapentin 600mg, so you will be fine mixing Gabapentin with Tegretol if you want to. I haven't found Gabapentin added anything to the mix though, and I was unable to get it up past 600mg due to side effects.

I am currently receiving B12 'loading' shots from my doctor in an attempt to see if that helps with my TN, so until I have stabilised those we will not be adding any more drugs. I would definitely recommend Tegretol as it was and is and absolute lifesaver.

As for side effects it causes plenty at first but they DO go, absolutely. Just stick with it. After a while you pretty much feel normal on it. The only real downside is I have never lost my staggery walk or the 'stupidity' it causes by way of memory loss and so forth, although some of that may well turn out to have been B12 deficiency. It has also adversely effected my white blood cell count, but we are monitoring that - so far, so good.
