Teeth?

I am looking at possible surgery if my meds do not work. The pain always seems to begin in the same area, a crown put on 9 months before the pain began. Has anyone else had this? Has the tooth turned out to be the problem? (Crack, abscess, etc). Any one in the dental community heard of it?

Dear Jamie,
Thanks for the info. I spent the afternoon at the dentist; he heard me through, took more, detailed xrays. Nothing is wrong with the crowned or not crowned teeth. If there was, after all this time there would be evidence of abscess in the roots. But, my sinuses were cloudy, so I will take antibiotics to see if that helps.
He did tell me of a previous patient, years ago, who went to Yale Medical with the same condition. He had anjection into the trigeminal nerve on that side. It deadened the nerve pain, yet he was still able to move his facial muscles. That seems like a viable option, if it is still done.
Again, thanks for the info and kind words.

Boppy,

About 3 years ago I was having headaches that felt like someone was taking an ice pic and scraping it against my skull. My dentist said I had a cavity, but once he got in there he had to do a root canal, which didn't stop the headaches. I ended up extracting that tooth and the pain was gone instantly. I am a firm believer that dentistry could be part of the TN problems for some people. All my other TN problems have stemmed from dental procedures too.

My atypical TN…constant pain and no compression started after a botched crown placement. A dentist had a ridiculous time putting on a crown and then put one on with permanent cement that broke immediately. Took her an hour to get it off. The pain started then. Afterward, her partner placed a post in the tooth, which was already cracked that’s when the pain went through the roof. My horrible experiences with dentists continued as I searched for answers to my horrible pain…and lost a perfectly good tooth (well, at least it was to start with). Finally, an oral surgeon/MD apologized for the dental profession (amazing) and told me I needed to see a neuro and stop seeing dentists. Then, I was dx’d with facial neuralgia due to damage of the Trigeminal nerve by xxxxxxxx dentists. YES dental work can cause this, and this goes double if your dentist is an idiot.
