After being rather well controlled on Neurontin 300 mg twice a day (or 3x a day when the weather necessitates) it seems I am having a flare up/break through pain.
Back in November 2013 when I was first diagnosed it was on my right side. Now it's my left. No where near as bad (knock on wood) but I am worried it will get worse as Neurontin doesn't seem to be helping for much more than a couple of hours at a time.I'm hoping it's just the weather front that is moving through. I had to chew on my right side for the first times in years today. Just glad I was able to do it.
Anyone else have the pain switch sides (or more like add sides) after a period of time? I know having bilateral TN is "rare." I'll be going to the dentist on the 28th and am obviously hoping i have a cavity or something.
I am bilateral. I had it for a year on my left before my right joined in. My original left side is way, way worse. My right one only bothers me once every few months. I have had a couple of pretty intense flare ups on the right though. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. It isn't as rare as you think. Some days both sides go off like fireworks.
I have found that I have had to increase my med gradually over the past two years. My pain will start to break through or change location after a couple of months. It's hard to know exactly how much the medication really is helping sometimes.
Seems it’s not that uncommon for the sides to start at different times. Weird. I’ve had to take an extra dose of the Neurontin for 2 days in a row now. I may just take it every 8 hours for a week or so and see if things calm down. It just makes me so sleepy when I don’t take it with a caffeine pill. 'Tis life I guess.
