Successful MVD

I always said I wouldn't be the person who doesn't go back on the web pages that have helped me so much & report my success story and here I am...11 months later & I haven't been on to post. March 28, 2012 I went in for my MVD with Dr. Ken Casey. As of today I am still pain free. I had a difficult time with my surgery due to a condition that I have, Pseudotumor cerebri which causes increased cranial pressure. ICP is also a side effect of surgery. The pain after surgery was horrific due to this. I had to have a lumbar drain where they would come in every couple of hours and drain the fluid. It hurt to make the slightest movement with my head and having to get up to go to the bathroom was very hard. It took me a week after surgery to get my medication at a high enough dose to really start feeling better. I take Diamox which is basically a water pill to help remove excess fluids. Once that was under control I felt great. Still tired and not back to my old self but considering I just had brain surgery, I felt great! I also had a severe allergic reaction to something (medication, tape, prep for the lumbar drain??) so I had blisters on my back and a rash because the reaction was so bad. I will tell you this though....without the extra issues that I had, I really think the surgery would not have been anywhere as bad as I thought it would have been. As soon as I had these issues under control I felt great. If my TN comes back, even with the additional problems I had, I would not hesitate to have another MVD done. I just can't believe how much this disease impacts your life and I am so happy to have my life back. I just pray that I continue each day being pain free. If anyone has any questions about surgery, recovering, etc., please do not hesitate to ask.

Great to read you are pain free! :-)

Great to hear stories like these…. Gives hope there is a “physical” reason for the pain instead of “well there just pain with no cause” for some of us, and they can do something about it.

Here’s Hoping you remain pain free for eternity.

Thank you for coming back and sharing your story!!

It means a lot to those of us contemplating or waiting for our own MVDs.

I’m so glad despite the additional issues you had to deal with that you are pleased with your decision and the outcome!!

I wish you continued well being, and hope you come back to share your success!

(( hugs )) Mimi
