I've mentioned here before that periods of stress can usually trigger an attack of TN pain for me and others here have echoed that. But how quickly does it happen for you?
About 15 minutes ago, a co-worker, went off on a rage filled tirade because a piece of equipment is malfunctioning that may affect his show (We work in radio). He yelled, "Those F*$#kers better fix this" and continued yelling and storming around for the next five minutes. None of this was directed at me but he stormed past me several times and his rage was palpable.
Within a few minutes after experiencing his rant, I started getting stabbing pains in the right side of my face, the usual start of a TN attack. Now, there's a dull ache with occasional jabs that I know will last through the day. Darn it.
Does anyone here experience anything similar that quickly?
for me if the yelling or arguing stops then its usually a few minutes after ill start to get pressure and aches, if it doesn’t stop or i’m directly involved it will it immediately goes into full blown pain.
Yes stress is a trigger for me, we moved home 12 months ago, my pain was unbearable. Every time we had a letter or phone call connected to the sale of our old home and the purchase of our new home my TN went into overdrive. Shall never move again, think the stress would kill me. Now because I am retired I don’t get stress from any work related worries, but I can get it from anything from the energy company making a mistake, to getting stuck in traffic when we are trying to get anywhere for a certain time. At the moment my daughter who is 41 is due to give birth to her first child and my TN is awful. It is normal to worry about your children so I can’t stop thinking about her. If only there was a way to switch my brain off. You are not alone, but does that help. Love Margaret
Stress, colds, infection, loud noise, girls screaming in joy about something, wind, cold, atr my known triggers, still trying to find out other reasons for the pain.
Yep, stress does it for me too. Cold fronts, menstral cycles, wind, loud noises (hard to control with a house full of mini-monsters ages 10-21) certain foods, my C1 slipping. I can tell a good one is coming on by how itchy the inside of my ear is.
WHAT? LOL :) Bobbie...your ear gets itchy then an attack? I haven't heard that one before....but funny enough....i never had itchy ears until a few months after I was attacked with TN. Is it just one ear?

My right ear. That is the side I have TN on. It was probably the first sign to show up when the TN first started 7 years ago now. I have complained to all my doctors about it. They are all stumped. But I know, when itchy ear shows up, drug up. Its gonna be rough.

I have found a attack will affect my tounge. This my soung crazzy but when the attack comes on I have a numb sensation on the left side of my toung. ( this is where all of my pain is on the left side of my head) I hurt in my left temple all of the time when a trigger comes on I feel it go down my jaw top and bottom then if it is a bad one it is like some one is stabbing me in my throught. back of my tounge and roof of the mouth. There is times my back of my toung on the last side goes numb kinda like a dentist working on yout teeth. It is a numb feeling but you stiill feel the pain. I also had my skin just under my lip on my left side go numd after a attack today that was the first time for that. It didnt last long. Has anyone felt any of these feelings??
Stress triggers my TN immediately. I take Xanax to try and deal with stress. Any kind of stress effects me. I have to live low key or else the pain is intolerable. But my TN started with a bout of shingles that reoccurs so therefore I find it very difficult to be around any kind of stress. Its like BAM as soon as I feel the stress coming on I have pain so yea I’m with ya.
THATS ME!!!! I have the exact same thing. its like there is a line in the middle of my tongue. Left side has electrical shocks, numbness and over all weird feeling during an attack. Only left side of my tongue. I also have numbness and shocks on my left lips and right where my face meets and marries up with my nose. I thought I was crazy, WOW someone else with the tongue numbness and shocks. I am so happy I read your post. Thank you for making me feel like I'm NOT crazy!

Yeppa! Matter fact, my kids thinks it is all in my head - no pun- and I should relax! Honey, I get it. When this happens, before you dizzy up with anti-seizure meds or numb up with pain meds try concentrating on breathing for 5 minutes.
Slowly breathe in through the nose feeling each inhalation and exhale slowly through the mouth feeling each exhalation.
B R E A T H in B R E A T H out!
We are here for you! We feel your pain - again no pun!
Hang in there!
Thanks for the link to this discussion Karen. It’s great to know that others have stress as a trigger. Interesting about the menstrual cycle, I am suffering particularly this week and am wondering if there is a link for me too? Meds aren’t touching the edges in the last couple of days!
YEAH! I was thinking I was crazy for feeling the inside of my lt ear 'itchy' before it all begins...and my lower lip will go numb between episodes...like someone else said - like a dentist numb - SO glad to read that I am not the only one! again, I thank you all for replying and letting me vent as well; I learn so much from you all as we go through this together...today is a cold front coming through; had a rough day. Hoping and praying for more good days in this new year for us all.

Stress is a major trigger for me. I start to get the tingly sensation on the left side of my tongue and palate, a scratchy pain behind my left eye, the tinnitus goes up in my left ear and yes, I also get itchy deep inside the left ear canal. I also feel a pulling sensation or tightness in one area on the left side on the backside. Strange stuff this condition.
