Hey all! It's been awhile since I've been around, school is taking up a lot of time, but have a question. I seem to be in remission and will only get twinges every now and then, mostly related to barometer changes. Did anyone stop their medication when they were in remission? Are you supposed to? I'm on gabapentin 300 mg every 12 hours, used to be every 8. It just knocks me out and I'm not functional if I don't take a caffeine pill with it and my Dr. doesn't want to give me another prescription for the sole purpose of treating a side effect.
I would advise talking with your doctor on this. These medications typically need to been weened off with their guidance. I know that is not too helpful but stopping suddenly can cause some very serious side effects. But it is great to hear you are feeling better Hooray!
I stopped while in remission then found when I had to go back on all the side effects came back! The general consensis seems to be that you make a smaller dose to keep things at bay.
My neurologist and I always had the following plan after aproximately 6 weeks pain free, he would then give me a reduction plan.
A few weeks ago I started feeling better with the addition of a new med to my existing 2 meds, this time because of the severity, length and because it has been med resistant he told me to wait 6 months. The last 4 days my pain has increased again.
In any event, I would talk to your doctor/ Neuro about this.
The first time I tried I was able to wean off all meds and have a lengthy remission. The second time I reduced one dose and within 24 hrs the pain was back. I added back the dose and stayed at that dose with no pain.
Get his or her professional opinion and go from there.
It varies for all of us. Good luck! (( hugs )) Mimi
When I have time to make a doctor appoint, it's definitely something I'll discuss with her. Thanks!
