I doubt I am the only one, but I have TN for one of my google alerts. Most days it's a hodge podge of crap and puff pieces about an Indian actor who has the condition and his trials. However a very interesting article was turned up.
most of our drugs, as we are all aware, are designed for epileptics - and not for neuropathic pain patients. There is however a drug being specifically designed for us.
As found in an article to be found at http://pharmabiz.com/NewsDetails.aspx?aid=68093&sid=2http://pharmabiz.com/NewsDetails.aspx?aid=68093&sid=2
The chief executive officer of Convergence Pharmaceuticals; Clive Dix stated that, “We are delighted to announce the start of this phase II trial in trigeminal neuralgia, our second clinical trial of CNV1014802 [the drug], following a phase II proof of concept study initiated in July 2011 for treating pain associated with lumbosacral radiculopathy (LSR). CNV1014802 has already demonstrated an excellent pharmacokinetic and safety profile in over 160 healthy volunteers in phase I trials. TN is a very debilitating disorder and we are confident that CNV1014802 will help fill the desperate need for innovative new treatments. We look forward to reporting results in 2013.”
Whilst the middle of 2013 seems a long ways off, and the possibility of getting our hands on a drug that looks this good possibly another 5 years after that it isn't the rest of our lives, which is how I tend to view this disorder. So maybe most of us, and the next generation of patients WON'T have to look at 'borrowing' anti conulsants to get by.
At the very least, there is SOMEONE who is researching this problem in our neck of the woods - lets hope this drug and others that may follow from it are much better tolerated than the ones we have currently and that they help those where drugs have been not even helpful for.
My thoughts are for them.
