I have had TN for three years now and 2013 was the first time it did not go into remission. I have had some form of pain off and on now for a complete year. I am not on any meds right now. I tried the tegretol but the side effects were atrocious. I have gotten some good relief from accupunture ,but it only took it away to a point. I started seeing a chiropractor who specializes in setting the atlas in place. He has gotten me to almost pain free several times but some pain always persists. I have gotten the best relief from his setting the atlas however and this keeps the pain bearable and manageable. My question is: Why will it not go into remission as it usually does. I am just about at wits end with it constantly popping up and not knowing when it will strike. I would certainly enjoy some pain free times.
It is my understanding that TN is a condition that gets progressively worse...both with shorter and shorter periods of remission as well as increases in pain. (if i am wrong, please someone correct me...)
Im sorry, i know that isn't what you wanted to hear.
Maybe it's time you talked with your dr and gave tegretol (or some other medication) a try. A lot of people DO get good pain relief management with medication. I'm taking carbamazepine, gabapentin, and baclofen..and on most days am either pain free or very close. (not always..i do have break through pain on occassions...)
Also, there are several surgical procedures that can help too. I've not had any of those..so i can't comment on them.
~Wishing you peace and a pain free day

Yes progressive, and then the kicker, many eventual med resistant.
