I placed my order with my local library in the UK. They tracked a copy for me from London and for a very small charge had it delivered to my local UK library. I was able to keep renewing it until I had read it cover to cover. X
Never underestimate the power of a local library!
How weird, Elstep! I had the brainwave when I was first looking to buy it, of asking my library to buy it. Just as I was about to get a copy from Alibris, I got an email from Edinburgh libraries saying they were going to buy it, if they could, from the UK trigeminal Neuralgia Association. So, fingers crossed, they will be able to get it and I'll finally get to read it. God bless the library system!

Wow and you'll be privileged enough to be the first! Enjoy it when it eventually arrives x
I have had ATN for one year then it went away for seven years. It came back almost three years ago. I have pretty much been in remission through this summer but things are ramping back up again. I have triggers and stress, seasons and hormones are the biggest three. I wish I knew what made remission happen! This disease does progress and remissions become shorter and fewer as it progresses. If you are lucky enough to have remissions at all. I have isolated flare ups and totally pain free days and weeks sometimes. I wish I knew what brought those on too. My mom also has TN. She had it for about eight straight years and it has been totally gone for the last five years.
Mama, Jane and others -- remissions are one of the more maddening aspects of chronic neurological face pain. They come and go, and it's usually unclear why. The mechanisms aren't understood. The same seems to be true of the mechanisms underlying triggers.
Sorry I can't shed more light.
Regards, Red
Janet, I'm sorry I missed your posting some weeks ago. But yes, it's okay to post links to sellers who offer a product like Striking Back at lower prices more acceptable to members. We try to avoid being placed in the position of appearing to advocate for particular products, particularly those of the alternative medicine industry. But market tips seem reasonable.

Chancery of the Electric Teeth, I now have both copies of the Striking Back. While the new version is newer, there seem to be few differences between the two. But, the information that it provides is quite comprehensive. It's been called the Bible of TN, with good reason. I read a lot in a variety of science disciplines, and I am always impressed when an author pulls off the high-wire feat of writing about highly specialized topics in a way that is understandable for the general public. Weigel and Casey do just that. Some of the most useful information in the book comes in the forms of graphs, charts and tables. The chapters you might find most informative are, "Just What Is TN Anyway?", "What's Causing This Terrible Pain?", and "The Dental Connection." There are also chapters on different treatment approaches, including those outside of mainstream medicine.
Red, I don't want to break the rule about recommending any particular brands. Is it Okay to post the names of other booksellers that might be able to offer better prices?
Hi Jane! I don't know if your post reassures me or not. While it is very comforting to know that long remissions are possible, it's equally depressing to know that they come less and less often and you are stuck with the disease for longer lengths of time. One thing I am curious about the remissions. Have you noticed any warning signs before the pain returns, or does it come right out the blue like it did the first time (assuming yours did)? Also, is it more painful each time it returns, or is it just about the same? Has it changed in any way, or does it change in any way, with each new return?

Thanks, Red. My go-to resource for books, including textbooks is www.alibris.com. They often have deals on books that are lower-priced than other Internet sellers. If you take any college courses, chances are good that alibris will have what you're looking for at a lower price than any other provider.
