I attached the file. It explains the research project and nasal device. Let me know what you think and if you think I should try it
223-NASAL_DEVICE_consent_08192011.doc (53 KB)Hi Laurie,
I am seriously considering haveing some of my brain irradiated so drugs don't scare me so much anymore. LoL I try mot to give advise on such matters. Wish I had some though(if that makes sense).
Wow, some interesting thoughts here.
I haven't had TN for about 15 months now, and couldn't quite pinpoint any specific factors for this, but reading some of these accounts has me convinced that it's a number of factors as part of my lifestyle changes over the last 2 years or so.
A few changes I've made (not all of them diet-related):
1) As an indoor desk-bound worker, i had chronic back problems and have embarked on a fitness program called "Primal Stress", which has significantly improved my general mobility. At 41, i've never been fitter. Whether this has anything to do with TN i have no idea, but i do think spinal problems are a sign of poor general health.
2) Being indoors so much of the time, i now try to get at least 30 minutes every day outside - sun, hail or shine. Well, maybe not the hail bit...
3) Following on from getting more sunlight, i've been taking Fish Oil supplements, with these capsules also containing Vitamin D3.
4) My diet has changed since the start of 2013, with a dramatic reduction in carbs, especially wheat. Eating more fresh whole foods in general, and no additional sugar - only natural sugar in fruits etc.
5) Eating 'good' oil, especially coconut oil - maybe 1-2 tablespoons per day. Also taking far more omega 3s. Not sure if this has had an effect, but someone above mentioned good oils.
6) Reducing useless internal 'chatter'. It's a bad habit at the best of times, and not sure if it may even put pressure on nerves if you think too much? Not sure, but having a relatively uncluttered mind does relax your head more. I often 'catch' myself thinking too much and just relax a bit. It's funny, because i've become a far more social person since becoming aware of this poor mental habit.
Hope that helps, or supports any theories out there.
Interesting experience there Gezza. I hope to emulate the same. Vitamin D, hmm, I'm not getting enough of that since I moved to The Hague. (-:
No junk food for almost three week. No major pain attacks so far. :-)
I think everyone is different and we need what works for us to relieve the pain of TN. I have had TN for 10 years now, on and off, not found any food that effects it, (just can't eat when its bad) but always effected by the air temperature.... worse attacks lasting months are in cold or cooler weather. Summer and hot weather, its still there, but no or very little pain. First 7 years it came with Autumn and went with warm weather of Spring/Summer. So I was on Tegretol for 6 mths of the year. Now it seems to have a mind of its own after taking 1000iu B12 a day for 18months. Just comes - in different places (side of nose, under eye, back of throat, seems like it is finding weak spots in the Trigeminal Nerve branches, that the B12 has not built the sheaves up on.... B12 high in my system now, so off it for a while. but I have a spray bottle that can deliver 500iu if needed. The B12 has really been a great change of events for me, as far as TN pain and attacks are concerned. Regards Gail
Are you still pain free?
