Questions to ask Dr. In first DVM consult

Hi,
I am going to meet with a neurosurgeon in Nashville tomorrow for my first consult to decide if MDV is right for me. Any suggestions on questions to ask/info I need from the Dr. Would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Amy

OH yes

Ask how many MVDs per year

If less than 50, make nice and leave

How many patients in their care have had improvement since MVD done by them.

Do they do the work themselves, or supervise a resident when you are on the table.

Ask what your aftercare instructions will be

AND remember - most surgeons are analytical, not real warm and fuzzy, and we don't need them to be warm and fuzzy BUT not smug or cold either!

You can shop around if you can travel!

Let us know tomorrow what happens! Find out what dates for MVD you have for options......

Tell them you will go home and look at your planner.... unless you are 200% sure this is your guy.....

you can always make one and cancel it.

Just get THE best you can!

Is this MVD surgeon on the list of doctors we love here on the doctors tab?

Or put their name in the search box here before you go OR when you get back.

MVD, I'll blame the meds for getting the letters all mixed up!

Hi Mom22,

Go to DOCTORS at the top right of this page and click on the one that says FIND A DOCTOR, then scroll down just a tad an in blue you will see HOW DO I DEVELOP A DOCTOR-PATIENT RELATIONSHIP. Click on that it gives information on questions to ask on both first appt. and then qustions to ask Neurosurgeon before surgery.

I hope this helps. Good Luck at your appointment!!

Jodi

Wow...in my prayers Amy! Listen, very simplistic to them the MVD. Release some of the spinal fluid by the area, seperate the artery that is hitting the cranial nerve that is sending those horrific shocks and causing all of that pain and placing something similar to mesh or gauze in between so they no longer touch. Afterwards the fluid is released back maintaining that all is in place and u are closed. One of the smallest incisions. Of course for us it's just BRAIN surgery!! So follow the lead of what all have posted about what kind of doc u want. May God bless the hands of whatever doctor you choose...eva
