Anybody else have bilateral, type 2 pain that moves around your face and head? Sometimes it's worse in jaw close to my ears, other times its my mouth, or forehead...past two days its been nasty in the back of my head and my forehead. Aside from the obvious, pain, one of the things I find hardest to deal with is not knowing how I will feel from day to day.
The pain patterns you are describing seem to have a lot in common with a mixture of trigeminal neuralgia and occipital neuralgia (similar process, different nerve). Rapid fluctuations of pain levels and areas affected are fairly common in facial neuralgias. Bilateral pain appears to operate in at least 20% of our membership. Possibly more. Are you under medication, and if so which one and at what daily dose?

700mgs of Tegretol and oxycodone 10 mgs as needed. In a lot less pain than I was before, just a little puzzled at the traveling pain, that's new for me. Thank you for replying, Red and thank you for all you do!
If the pain has a burning and nearly constant (even if shifting around) character to it,then I think your neurologist might want to consider reducing your Tegretol in favor of one of the tri-cyclic antidepressants like Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline. They have a recognized cross-action on neuropathic pain. Failing that, you might be tapered up a bit on Tegretol. Max recommended dose is 1200 mg/day, though that level tends to produce pretty strong side effects in a lot of folks.
Regards and best. - and thanks for the acknowledgement.

Thank you, I will look into the nortriptaline, amitriptaline and I did NOT get along. I do have almost constant pain and sometimes burning, but its more crushing...almost pressure feeling. Lots more trial and error til we find what works!

I have bilateral ATN that travels around my head as well. Even the back. I have been on Amitriptyline and Nortriptyline. Nortrip has fewer side effects and was easier for me to handle then Amitrip so it is definitely worth a try for you. I a lot of migraine symptoms as well. Some people do get some relief with a migraine med called triptans, like sumatriptan.
