I am a nurse that works in a hospital. I take OxyContin and triliptal for ATN type 2. Long history of trying to find the right combo to give me relief. This is not working and want to know if there is anyone that has found to combination that has helped. Also wondered if there is a pain management doc that specializes in ATN. I have had every thing done surgically and blocks Botox ect that can b done. Exhausted w this disease and just want pain relief
I am type 1, so I don't know about the meds for type 2. Mine is pretty well controlled with Tegretol 400mg twice a day. Big hugs to you!
I take Effexor and Trileptal and Topamax plus percocet for breakthru. I started out as type 2. But am now bi lateral I and 2.
How much Percocet. Forgot to say Iam on Percocet 5 mg and that does not touch it
I am on 10/325 and my Trileptal is 1200mg per day and Effexor is 75 mg per day.
I live near TOLEDO and just see a regular pain management doc. I just feel if I could find one that deals w ATN that I would have better chance for relief. He has been good w me trying other Meds but just can’t find how to help me. I get stalite gas gloom blocks every could weeks w little to no relief. So frustrated
That is stalite ganglion blocks
I see a neurologist. Have you checked out our doctor listing for one in your area???
Hi Karen…I am a nurse also!! I hope u are not working with oxycontin in ur system. U could loose ur license if u were asked for a drug screen. I take trileptal 1800mg/day, baclofen 40mg/day, cymbalta 60mg/day and amytripyline 20mg at bedtime. I also have type 2 and was told the combo of anti seizure, muscle relaxer, and antidepressant to be the “gold standard” for type 2. It took my pain down considerable but, I was hoping for painfree…about a year and a half ago I have a peripheral nerve stimulator placed and I have to say. Most of my days are painfree…I hate being on the meds but, to have this good of pain control it is worth it!! I have had an unsuccessful MVD and multiple nerve blocks that didn’t help either. Look into the PNS maybe it would help u too! ((HUGS)) from one nurse to another
Hi Karen,
Everyone is so different with their TN that I don’t think their is one medication or one combo that works. It can take a bit before finding that magic medication or combo for you. After going through a hoopla of trying different combos and levels of each, only to have reactions or no reliefs I finally started seeing the pain managment doctor whom I see now. I remember so clearly he looked over my medication history and what I currently was on and simply stated I was under medicated and did not have a high enough dosage for the medication to help. So it might just take finding the right doctor, and simply having your medication changed to higher dosage or trying some other medications and combos of meds. Also complementary therapies might help too; message, physical therapy, acupuncture, or even yoga. It is hard to say what will work for one person. Have you looked under the face pain info area and the list of suggested doctors? You might to look there too. I wish I was able to tell you what the magic medication is. Hope you’re having a good day that is pain free.
Thanks everyone for your comments Lisa I would love to find out more about the pain stimulator how can I talk with you can you email me or message me how does that work
I am going to try it that combination of medications I have all of them so well try that and see if that works thanks so much
Karen, I suggest that you consider a trip to Cincinatti to the Mayfield Clinic. Dr John Tew and his colleagues are deeply skilled in treatment of all sorts of face pain. You may want to dicuss with them the use of TCA medications, as well. The Tri Cyclic Antidepressants like Nortriptyline and Amitriptyline have a well known record of effectiveness in treating trigeminal neuropathic pain and ATN Type 2.
Red, thank you for the information about the Mayfield Clinic! I have been so frustrated with my medical care and lack of help in Dayton, Ohio. I am calling the Mayfield Clinic tomorrow.....Melody
