Just curious because my refferral just recently got complete now all i have to do is wait for OHSU to call me back and schedule me a appt with him is he a good guy do you think I’ll be able to at least make progress with my pain behind my eye
Justus, I know how impatient you must be feeling, but this question was answered in various ways by several people on your previous thread. Please go back and read those comments again. They should be reassuring.
One of the posts came from TJ, and it is high praise indeed, from a man who isn’t known for dishing praise all over the place:
Dr Buchiel operates an integrated pain center, although he himself is a surgeon, his team includes psychopharmacologists, hi level pharmacist, psychologists, pt (including spinal adjustment), OT, a number of medical specialists, psychologists, physiatrists , psychiatrists, accupuncturists, nutritionists and few ists I haven’t even heard of all of which are in one of the nations top academic medical centers. There is little they don’t have the ability to sort out from the physical, mental, spiritual and environmental. It is the model of pain management.
“There is little they don’t have the abilit to sort out … It is the model of pain management.”
Does that sound like it will be worth the wait?
As for what you should expect from Dr. Burchiel, I think a more appropriate question is what you should expect from Justus. I’m guessing that Dr. Burchiel will make a lot of suggestions to you with respect to things that you can do to cope with your pain. That’s why he has psychologists, physiatrists , psychiatrists, accupuncturists, nutritionists on staff at his clinic. He is also a surgeon, and maybe he will offer you surgery as well. Until you get there and they do the diagnostics, what will happen is anybody’s guess. I’m pretty sure, though, that you are not going to find a doctor or a clinic that is better prepared to serve you.
Here, once again, is the advice I gave you before:
I’m thinking that maybe what’s going to be best for you at this point is to consider your lifestyle, maybe make a flow chart for Dr.Burchiel, and start working on the lifestyle changes that people like 'moth have suggested.
I think we’re at the “broken record” stage now. Oh oh, I’m showing my age. Broken record.
I know ur probably right i guess im just excited and worried all at the same time but i do appreciate ur feedback i hope u guys know i dont tskr ur support for granted
I have read and researched this doctor. I just don’t live on the same coast of the US. I would certainly go to him.
I took his online test to determine my problem. It gave me the correct diagnosis when 4 other doctors ( including 2 neurologists) said I did not have TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA type 1 and mostly 2.
However, I did get the same correctbdiagnosis from a neurosurgeon in Charleston, SC who was the Chief Professor at a teaching hospital.
This doctor sounds amazing.I will have to look up that online thing.
The thing with the flow chart,it makes you think and get organized.
So the date it started and anything that happened that might have precipitated it and then the next doctor and what they prescribed and how you reacted.
Everything can go on one sheet of paper,BUT,you will have all the supporting documentation.
Also-start a pain log and a pain reliever log.
Doctors are quite impressed when you can show them what worked and on what date.
So ,get organized and the appointment will happen before you know it.
A tad bit of jealousy here.
But,happy that you will be getting the best treatment available.
Great ideas Ellen!
Justus:
I am an FPA, Support Group leader in the Sacramento, Ca area. I have met Dr. Burchiel at several International TN/FPA Conferences and even watched him do a live broadcast of a MVD surgery. He is a fine person and an excellent neurosurgeon. I can safely say that he is one of the best in the country. I think you will be very pleased, and hopefully, properly diagnosed and and helped by him. By the way did you know that Dr. Burchiel developed the list of facial pains such as TN-1, TN-2 etc.? I wish you great luck and relief from pain.
