Is anyone from New Zealand and had any TN operations done in this country.
Hi I’m from New Zealand but have ATN…are you about to have a procedure done for TN? What medications are you on? All the best!
Hi'
I've had ATN for three years.
I.m from Otago. Amitriptyline made me dizzy. Then they started carbamazepine then Gabapentin a week or two later but I got a rash and lost my appetite. Ended up in hospital and after only three days on Gabapentin I ended up hallucinating for a week. That was so......... scary.
I think I've tried nortripyline. Of course Codeine didn't work. I took that for quite awhile. I've tried numerous naturopath pills.
Nerve renew pills from America for three months. Acupunture for 3-4 months. Sacral cranial work before that for 3-4 months.
I'm only taking 100 mg Amisulppride (an anti depressant) a day. I little relief with that maybe bit it helps to cope with the pain.
I,ve just started Pregabalin its similar ot Gabapentin, I have to go slowly so I'm on twice a day this week and three times a day next week. So far its not caused me any problems.
We even bought a Bioptron healing light for $2700 its supposed to go 2 inches into your head to heal. About 6 weeks of that and nothing better, of course.I saw the neurologist a couple of years ago and he said he could operate but it wouldn't work. I was so confused and pained at the time that I just accepted and didn't know what to say. But now that I know more I'd like to go back to him. I told my doctor I'd go to Auckland or Australia for an operation as I don't know whether they do any of the TN operations in Dunedin. Which is only 20 minutes away now.
Whoops,
How are things for you. Having got my story off my chest. I just realised you must be struggling also. Silly me!

Hi Farmeress,
Pregabalin needs at least a month to kick in if you are on the right dosage. For me it hardly causes any side effects but I always go slowly up or down.Like you I am very sensitive to medication and like you I have ended up in hospital.I was once on 600 mg a day and it was a miracle for me in taking away the pain but I was as high as a kite and rolled my car.Never again I’d rather have the pain than that out of control feeling so I halved the dosage.I would never have an operation for my ATN.There are hardly any success stories and often you can make things worse. That doctor was right.Having said that if you went ahead you could very well be successful and I do hope you were!!!
Have a confession to make NZ is my place of birth and until I was 19. Since then I have lived all over the world but now London. But I just had to reply to you Farmeress as little old NZ is still my home! Do let me know how you are getting on! Good luck ! X

I've only been on full dosage 11 days.I've been wondering about the bad stories from operating.I'm hoping my symptoms are coming from a pinched or compressed nerve from a misaligned Atlas bone in my head. As my symptoms aren't changing or getting worse and I have been able to cope (just) for three years with no relief from any pills yet. An ice pack is good on my head for the nerves on the top of my head.My mouth drives me nuts. I have to chew gum all day and drink cold water. Alcohol also gets me though the afternoon, then an early meal and glorious bed. Where I sleep very well.
I'm on 150mg 3 times a day???? How many mg for you???

Hi my NZ friend,I have sent you a friend request today!
Did you say Eileen that you are on Pregabalin. Do you think that's full dosage at 3x 150mg per day.
I need to change to a new doctor but haven't gotten around to it.
My new osteopath who is a doctor can access all my MRI,s and records. And is going to check them.
He says I'm very relaxed in all my muscles and then my neck is like an ironing board. I now realise I have damage in there and cant wait for the X-ray to be done on my neck.
I doubt it can be fixed and I wonder if it connected to pinching or compressing the trigeminal nerves.
How are you getting on with your TN?

Hi Eileen, My neck and the discs between came back in perfect health.
I guess I should be happy about that.
The Osteopath worked on the muscles in that area where it is sore and the neck below, it was so sore the next morning.
But also throbbing in my whole head and nose.
then I got a fever maybe from going off the Pregabalin too fast which I didn't think I did. Or the two half pills of Carbamazepine or maybe a virus Dr Osteopath thinks. Huh! I've been sleeping and feverish with no appetite for two and half days.
So I'm off the Carbamazepine for a few weeks till I can see what he can do.
Either my neck problems are caused by, or the cause of my issues. Well Its a 50/50 chance I say.
I,m using a hot water bottle on my neck 3 times a day and that's quite nice.
The trigeminal nerves are entwined in the area he's fixing, so that's hopeful.
Hi, farmeress
Did you know that you can go to the "members" section and search for "new zealand"? You might find some people there who haven't seen this post, but who would be glad to help.
