Thank you Laura for the hotel/family options. I am considering the surgery in Pittsburgh, if and when I make that decision. I wasn’t sure how the whole picture might look. You helped me to get a glimpse and starting point. I am in remission now and seeking alternatives praying there will not be another episode.
I sent out an email to Lois Burghardt at Pittsburgh’s hospital. Wow! What an amazing person. She responded the next business day. I didn’t expect that. My pain management doctor’s assistant doesn’t get back to me anywhere near that quickly!
I am relieved to hear how well you are doing. I pray that you are pain free, comfortable, and stronger with each breath.
@ Donna, I am so glad you called Lois! They are very efficient there. I was more than impressed. I did just get a letter saying that Dr Horowitz is going to be leaving the practice and was sad to hear that, however the other neurosurgeon (I think named Brian) who is also fabulous abd has been doing the surgeries for years is there. He is very well trained. I always hoped that during the remissions that the problem was gone also…this was never the case. My last bought was really, really bad and that is what I needed to finally take the plunge. Now looking back I wonder why I suffered for so long…why do we live through such horrific pain when there is a cure??? The fear of surgery, the traveling far to a hospital that is experienced in the surgery, the unknown, money issues, etc. etc…It was the best thing I ever did. I wish I had done it in the beginning. I wish that neurologist’s sent people with this to a neurosurgeon to discuss this surgery from the start. The meds always did minimal, the pain alters your life, and lastly…I have never found anyone where this went away on it’s own…it only gets worse. Anyway, good luck with you and please get to Pittsburgh so you too can put this behind you! It is the best thing you will do for yourself.
