This sucks. I ran out of cymbalta for 9 days from 60mg to 0mg and haven't gotten back to the level of relief I was at before running out, the pain has gotten pretty damn bad.
Last thursday was bad enough I left work, came home and took my last oxycodone and scheduled with the doctor, but my doctor wasn't available for 2 weeks so I went to another one in the same place, today.
Basically she told me to go back to the neuro, and increase my cymbalta to 90mg and 120mg if still in pain, but the whole reason I ran out of cymbalta was because I can't get it locally, my insurance makes me get it through online mail order, so I have to wait another week to get it. So thanks for writing me a prescription for something I can't get for another week while I'm in agony. And then it takes weeks to build up in your system. So I'm just doubling up with the 60mg pills I have.
So I just got home and called the neuro and the next availability is Jul 29th....ugh. Frustrating...
Have you called the mail order dudes and asked for an emergency supply sent to a local pharmacy? My co. Is Medco (now Express Scripts) and even they will give you five days off your prescription to a local pharmacy. The other thing is to tell them your diagnosis and they get very sad and lastly if you offer to pay next day delivery yourself they will let you do that. Been there done that, obviously. They may let you have a few pills since they are prescribed just tell them you know that the insurance will not pay for them but you are willing to pay for them out of pocket. Sorry!
And call the office in the morning and ask to be put on the docs cancellation list. Then call every morning at 8:00 and I bet you anything you get in long before the 29th either because they find an opening OR they get tired of you calling every morning:) …
Is there any way you can arrange to have a month, or even two week extra supply on hand so this doesn’t happen? Even a week would limit the setback. So sorry you are going through this again.

Sorry to hear you're in pain again. I so hope it's a temporary thing. Like TL said, I usually ask to be put on the cancellation list when I need to see a doctor sooner than scheduled (I don't go as far as calling them every morning though:)), and more often then not it works as there's always someone who cancels and then it's just a matter of how many people are on the cancellation list before you.
Lee, that just doesn’t make any sense to me!!! Do they not realize the severity of the pain? Can you call the prescribing doctor back and get enough of the med until yours arrives via mail order?? I don’t pretend to understand the US’s healthcare/ insurances but the limitations really seem barbaric! I hope you’re able to get ahold of the medication sooner somehow…what about via ER at a hospital? I know I’m reaching…hoping you find enough relief to get by until your meds arrive.
(( hugs )) Mimi
Tl is right, I have medco as well and they will prescribe emergency doses to a local pharmacy.
The biggest bitch I have had through my entire medical journey has been how long it takes to get anything done....I work in insurance as you know, and I have to write an estimate on a customers car within 5 days of getting a claim or I can lose my license and be fined or face a bad faith law suit. There are tons of rules on property claims, but health insurance has no such law, nor do the doctors. So, your car can get repaired faster than your body can!!! Makes no friggen sense other than the insurance lobby is the biggest group in the country..go figure. It pisses me off to no end!!
I will get off my soapbox now....I sure hope you get some relief, and as KC said, I would like to know what is up with the aMVD as well??

Ok one more thought… Have you placed the order with the mail order company because sometimes they will hunt down the doc like a bounty hunter after a fugitive because they want more $$$. Or is that just the way with Medco? Might be worth a try.
That is immensely frustrating. I feel so bad that your pain has increased so much while having to wait for your meds. I had something similar happen last week with with my Tegretol. While I'm normally very calm and patient I was in such extreme pain I found myself yelling at folks on the phone, mostly because they all gave me a different story. Can you go to an emergency room and get them to bridge you for a day or two at least?
