Need to try a natural treatment for TN2

Hi,looking for natural treatment for TN2 .Tegretol works for me but side effects are a problem.I had remission after weaning off Tegretol but it lasted only 1 month.I had remission while I was in a warm climate as soon as I came home the cold & wind triggered it as I can’t stay inside 24/7.mine begins with stabbing pain in neck & ear then progresses to most of right side.Any recommendations appreciated.

Oh how I would love to find natural treatments for TN2, unfortunatelly, there doesn’t seem to be much out there. I would suggest looking into topical creams–there is an almost endless combination of drugs that can be applied via cream, and only small amounts will end up in your blood stream. I’ve had very good luck with a clonazepam topical for burning pain, and I’m going to ask my doctor about other topical options at the next appointment.

The other “natural” avenues I am pursuing are removing possible toxin sources, such as anti-perspirant, toothpaste, artificial sweeteners, msg, etc…I already have an excellent diet, but I’m going to do another gluten-free trial, also removing dairy for a while to see what happens. I’m adding more organ meats and fish, dark greens, great sources of B-vitamins, omega-3 oils.

If you are not already supplementing, you might try adding B-12 (as methylcobalamin, preferably sub-lingual), omega-3 fish oils, coenzyme Q, vitamin D, and alpha-lipoic acid. All of these are necessary for nerve repair.

Have you tried physical barriers such as scarves, hats, ear muffs etc?..anything to keep the pain from ramping up. I also want to point out that I have found most pain killers, especially opioids, make my pain worse in the long run and just aren’t worth it. It’s a difficult situation to manage when pain becomes unbearable.

Thanks for this, Ziggy! I’d never heard of clonazepam topical and will definitely ask my neuro if this could be helpful for me. I sometimes cut up lidocaine patches and use them, but can only do this when I’m working at home, as it can look pretty weird to have white patches on my face in public. Are TN2 and ATN the same? I’ve seen a multitude of docs and have had my pain described in both ways (mine began with a dental surgery as well and is the constant type, not shocks, left side only). I’d been on oxcarbazepine (trileptal?) about 6 weeks, but developed the horrible rash associated with it, so for safety’s sake, had to stop today. I do take oxycodone and it is helpful to me, but doesn’t usually kill the pain entirely. Plus, I prefer to be a sharper thinker, so I’d rather not take it if I could make the pain manageable without it. I will try to get an RX for the topical you suggested, and if I try it, I will report back. Thanks!

Here’s my story from a post I wrote previously. I’ve found 100% relief…no drugs, no surgery…I’m still pain free today!
