Hi,
Is your face numb too? What procedures did you have?

Hi,

I have had gamma knife, cyber knife & an spg block. I may have tilted the scale and had too much done but docs were willing to do so.
I feel like my ear hurts and is full of pressure, though I can’t be sure, as my senses are not working on that side.

I wish I could get help and wish the same for you, friend.

My neurosurgeon did an MRI and couldn't find any compressions on the trigeminal nerve. I don't know what the name of the procedure I had was but he went in on my left side and made some cuts in the nerve...roughing it up is the term he uses...with the idea that it would get rid of my TN pain. It did but it left the left side of my face numb. I went to an ear, nose and throat doctor yesterday and he suctioned out the fluid that he saw in my ear. I did some research on the internet about the ear problem and some people found relief by taking steroids for a week. So I mentioned that to him and he gave me a script for it...he said it wouldn't hurt any. I don't know how long you've been dealing with your ear problem but I would suggest seeing an ENT. When did you have your surgery??

What surgery did you have? My entire left side is numb including ear pressure and pain. Wonder what caused both of our issues?
Look forward to keeping in touch with you,
Christine

Is that where they go in with a needle through the cheek? They say numbness will go away?

I had Glycerin Rhizotomy about 2 weeks ago. I am still swollen, numb and my eyes stay very dry. The most annoying is the numbness: my forehead, left eye, check and left side of my mouth. I know I have to be patient. No pai so far.

that is what the glycerine rhizotomy is, they go in through your cheek and inject glycerine into the vein. I also had that done, it gave me a little numbness, which lasted only a day or two. I also got a headache from hell, that lasted days and my jaw felt like it was broken. The rhizotomy helped me with the lightning strikes , but did nothing for the ATN. I had an mvd in October and am now pain free, but I would say for anyone trying the rhizotomy it is worth the chance, and doesnt do any additional damage.

Yes.... after surgery in April 2014 and have had problem ever since. After the first few weeks fluid started building in my mastoid bone.It got so bad I couldn't walk without feeling off balance. Surgeon said my body would absorb it but it kept getting worse. My eyesight was affected with blurry vision and double. He said I might need to go to a ENT to get a hole in my head to drain it out.

I went to a ENT who said I would either get real sick with meningitis or get better. He also said he was sure I wouldn't want another brain surgery where they would have to PLUG UP a hole to stop the fluid.

So with two doctors saying the opposite I went to Vanderbilt. He said I had so much infection and it had to come out. He was a ear specialist. My daughter said he kept repeating that I had so so much infection. This laser surgery was in October.

Today I still feel like my ear is full and my mastoid is huge and hurts all the time. My incision from the decompression surgery is about 5 inches and goes into the muscle in my neck. I lost feeling from the middle of my chin, half my lower lip and gum and half of my face. The neurosurgeon told me my nerve and blood vessel was stuck together and he had to scrape them apart. Today I still have the same pain as I did before with the additional mastoid pain and ear pain, fullness. If you find answers please let me know. Some days it feels like something is digging in my ear.

I hope yours gets better. I understand

My doctors told me the same thing and had me on antibiotics for weeks. The fluid got so bad I felt it rolling around in the mastoid. My ear pressure was awful. Turned out to be infection

I went to my local doctor yesterday. She looked in my ear and saw a lot of fluid behind my ear drum, like people can get from swimming sometimes. She prescribed me something to sleep, thank goodness, and some ear drops for the pain. They do help take the edge off. She said unfortunately it can take several months for the fluid to drain and my ear to get feeling normal. It's just going to take time.

Linda are you having a second MVD because the first one was not successful?

I felt like I had a weird feeling like liquid was in my ear. Over time cleared up 98%. Your dr should be more helpful & understanding. Everyone on this site is so helpful & supportive.
I have my 2nd MVD scheduled for 11/15 & hope it works like a charm!, or just works!

Hi Eric

This is weird as my name is Linda Faye but didn’t write the above- not my story but had a 2nd MVD on 11/15/13!! It is so life changing you never forget the date of the surgery… here is my story! Happy Thanksgiving!

It was great for about 3 years then the pain started again. My 2nd surgeon said they original dr did the right stuff but scar tissue was the problem. Matter of fact he “pondered” stopping but I am so glad he didn’t! The immediate relief was amazing as originally I still had pain and the surgeon said it was because I didn’t wean off medication but hadn’t been told to. The 2nd surgeon took me off Trileptal but weaned off Baclofen. As each year goes by I am so thankful to be painfree and do think about the possibility that it could change… hope this helps!

I has glycerol rhizotemy OCt 23. My skull, eye, cheek, nose, face and inside left of my mouth are still numb. I do have a lot of pain---pins and needles, sometimes punching pain in the cheek, and occasional searing main or jolt. I have to keep my eye closed and it is most comfortable with a patch. This is worse than the original pain--if I could go back I would never have done the procedure. I hope you recover more quickly Blessed!

My surgery was in March 2014 and my ear drives me crazy. Recently a hole burst in my ear. The ear specialist said it was from pressure I need to see a neurologist, neurologist says its my ear. I give up

Your story sounds like mine Diane. Regrets. I'm glad others have had better success

I have Dr Raslan at OHSU. Will not let anyone else drill into my head. Swelling can also cause inner ear problems. Never had water in my inner ear, but did have balance problems until the swelling went down, which took about 6 weeks all together.
