Need Advice!

Hi all! So I have been going to this pain clinic for about two months. I have had three rounds of nerve block injections in my face, neck and shoulder. The first round, I had bad pain after the injections. When I went back to the clinic and told them, the doctor I see there said that the reliefs might not come until a couple rounds of the injections. So I got them done a second time. Except she did more. And after I was in ALOT of pain. So the third time I got them only in my shoulder on the right side. I had pain after, but only mild. Then, three days later I suddenly had severe pain in my right shoulder that radiated to the front and down my arm. With it came numbness down my arm. Went to emerge, emerge doctor said it was probably muscle in spasm from nerve block needles. Saw pain clinic doctor and she did nothing for me, just defended herself and said it wasn’t the needles. So it’s now been 48 hrs with this shoulder and arm pain. First question: has anyone had such bad pain after nerve block injections? And second: should I go back to emerge about my shoulder pain and numbness?
Sorry for the long post! I’m just kind of worried but I don’t know if I am over reacting about it all…

Hi Tatsy, not sure I can help but thought I’d comment anyhow to wish you well. It does sound like you need to see another doctor for a second opinion if you’re still experiencing this type of pain. I’ve had several nerve block injections in my neck, like you they said it will take several before they had a full effect. I’ve had temporary relief from some any no effect from others. But never experienced the type of side effect you have mentioned, although as I said mine were only in my neck.

Hope this gets better for you, best wishes

Hi Tatsy. Without getting into a long saga about my extremely bad experience after my one and only nerve block injections treatment for left cheek pain, maybe you can read my profile page account of it and also other posts I’ve made to others about my nerve block horror experience. Still suffering a NEW AREA OF EXTREME PAIN from the treatment 2 years later. Also I got same dismissive attitude from the very prestigious Dr who did it! Look for comments by ZeldasSis and read my profile page. Nightmare! I wish much better for you!!

Hi Tatsy. I am sorry you are having a bad reaction. Did the emergency department give you anything for the muscle spasm initially? If so, perhaps that will help. I too have had nerve blocks, but in my face/jaw/base of skull. My pain management Dr. told me the same thing about it taking several injections for it to fully work. While I found the procedure terribly painful, I did not get the reaction you have afterwards. I wish you luck in getting DIFFERENT and BETTER care. I'd also stay away from nerve blocks, as they sound like they don't work well with your body. All the best.

Get a new doctor!!! Thats awful… Drs. Cant cure us… But they think they can do no harm?? BS

LBHiker- the emerge department gave me an injection of a strong anti-inflammatory and a shot of dilaudid which helped.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, help and suggestions  very much appreciated!!

Hi, You are wasting your time and money, plus the discomfort you are going through. If these worked this site would not exist. Those drs. Don't know what to do for you so they are trying everything in their bag of tricks. Please don't shoot the messenger, after 31 years I think I have heard of almost every trick tried. This is one of medicines most challenging maladys as it presents itself in so many ways and each patient that does not respond to MVD is just in for a long often disappointing journey. I hope you will find the relief and peace it will bring. Cheers. Joe
