Yesterday, was my first appointment with a neurogolist. After having so many referrals, since Sept 2011, I was begining to think that no one wanted to or knew how to deal with my constant facial and mouth pain. The Dr was great, she was straight forward and understanding. She verified that the nerve damage was caused from the tooth extraction. She told me it may or may not regenerate itself. I wil stay hopeful. She started me on Gabapentin. So far not much difference in pain but it's still early. I will increase the dosage as she prescribed. Yeah, finally someone that listens and really does their best to help. God bless her.
Bonnie, I'm so glad you found a doctor who listened to you. I really do hope the gabapentin starts working well for you. Keep us posted.. Min ;)
I will keep everyone posted. My next appt is in September but she told me I can call anytime to have meds increased or decreased. I just want to feel better - today is another day of much pain.
Don't be afraid to call. I do so often when I need to and the nurse relays messages to the doc and he gets back to me.. :)
I made the first call today, my ear is throbbing, my jaw, chin and entire mouth are on fire with burning/electrical sensations. She told me I could up my meds to 3 times a day for one week to get back on schedule. She wants me to wait a few days before uping it again. I just don't want any tongue spasms like not long ago. That was horrible pain. Hoping for no side effects.
I don't blame you Bonnie. Good Luck.
She didn't tell me which nerve was damaged. I am curious though as well.
