MVD tomorrow, dec 15th, I'm so scared

so it’s allmost Mvd time and I really am getting nervous and scared now. Have to check in at the hospital this evening and the Mvd is scheduled for tomorrow. Hope all goes well

Wendy, you are giving yourself the best opportunity to be pain free. Of course you are nervous, that's just being human. I was nervous too, but the prospect of being pain free kept me going. It all went well and I am going on 3 years pain free.

All will go well, then give yourself time to heal. Try to relax a bit and look forward to being pain free.

Best wishes

Rick

Best of luck to you! I had MVD on both my right and left side in 2013, and all went well. Be sure to rest and treat yourself very well in the weeks following surgery!

Just got home from mvd seven days ago! Be positive! Rest that is what u need after!!

Dear Wendy, glad your having your MVD, you’ll never be sorry, just think how wonderful you’ll feel by Christmas, what a present hey!
I wish you all the best, I’ll be thinking of you, don’t worry, Anne x

You will be OK. We are all different, I was in for 2 nights, first night intensive care neuro trauma unit, only for brain trauma, second night in regular room, then home ( to our motorhome) stiches out in 2 weeks, then we drove home. Whatever you do, make sure you poop regularly, the meds get you stopped up, and I mean stopped up..I had to go to the ER the night before I had stiches removed.....not fun, head hurt and really need to poop, Dr. Kim told me that Magnesium Citrate from the drug store was all I would have needed to prevent this night of pure pain in the ER.. .....That is my BEST advice, other than the MVD is wonderful! Relax, take care of yourself and make sure of the poop problem. Hey, I have no shame after going through that situation, and lot's of people on this page know that I will get right to the point ! Take it easy, take care of yourself and we are here to help.

I had my MVD two months ago to the day and I’m doing great! Please let us know how you it went for you. Prayers for an uneventful and quick recovery…

Thanks for the info I will be having my MVD in February. I appreciate any info I can get from all of you.

The pain can’t be worse that it is now…
We’ll all be thinking of you, just rest, hugs Anne x

thank you all for the support!!! The operation went very well, but I had to stay at the hospital for 7 days due to extreme dizziness. I still have TN pain now and then but I guess I will have to give it some time...

I have been home now for 5 days and doing ok, had the staples removed today. Still very dizzy at times and very tired, so I sleep a lot.

Follow-up appointment with neurosurgeon 01/30. I will keep you posted

xx

Awwww there is one other person here that had much post op dizzies
Taking dramamine or anything for it?

Hey, I had the dizzies on and off for quite a while, sometimes when I lay down and close my eyes the room spins, just happens, no warning, before the MVD and after the MVD. 2 years after the MVD and I seem to be better in the mornings, tired early, it is so important to sleep, get enough sleep, life will never return to what it was before TN, but it does get better after MVD. Our pain is invisible to others, and sometimes that hurts more than the TN ..People will think because you had a good day yesterday, (which is because you put your all into the day and pushed past the limits), that you can do that everyday. For all the extra effort you put into a task, the setback you experience is invisible to others. If you don't take your meds on schedule, and I still have to take meds, now Lyrica and a few others, my face becomes numb with aching pain under the numbness, and occasional Charley Horse Cramps in my jaw, tongue, ear area . The stabbing, electric pain was fixed with the MVD, but the regular old TN is still there. Stick to the med schedule, get your sleep, and dizziness happens.

I am 9 weeks post-op from MVD. I have geniculate neuralgia. I had some complications that I hope you do not encounter. Someone else mentioned making sure you poop. That person is correct! I thought I was going to die due to constipation, and then wore diapers for 2 weeks. Be careful weaning off meds, make sure you are doing it correctly. My NS took me off of 400mg Lyrica cold-turkey only 5 days after surgery (when I got my staples out). I went through major withdrawals and honestly thought I was dying from surgery complications (never withdrawn before, so I didn’t know). Both of those things set me back for days. I had huge holes in my head from the halo used during surgery. Put Vasoline on them to help with scaring. I also had 4 “goose eggs” on my forehead. They are all gone, except for one, and it’s barely noticeable (can’t believe that took 9 weeks)! Make sure you rest and expect being exhausted, even when you start feeling better. I had Bell’s Palsey after surgery and asked for steroids to clear it up. The Bell’s Palsey went away by week 6. I also lost hearing on my left side. I still don’t have it back after 9 weeks. My NS says it will come back, my ENT says it won’t. I’ve had 9 steroid shots in that ear, back-to-back- now just a waiting game. I have fewer and fewer days with pain, but it still comes out of nowhere (not as bad as before surgery). I’m dizzy & disoriented due to the hearing loss. I’ve fallen a few times. Overall, I’m doing a lot better, just get exhausted really easily. I did not expect my recovery to be this hard or this long, and know I still have a way to go. I am still glad I had MVD, it helped me immensely with the GN pain. I hope your recovery experience is much better than mine. I’m happy to say I am off all meds. I will never take Lyrica again. Don’t push yourself, expect some pain but it will get better, expect to be tired, expect to have slow thought processes…this is what I’m experiencing.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery! Hope some of this helped. I still don’t know what to expect from day to day and wish I did.

XOXO
Danielle
