Mouth guards?

Anybody found relief from using a mouth guard?

Hi Jennifer,

Before I was diagnosed with TN I was misdiagnosed with TMJ problems--grinding and clenching. I wore a night guard every night for a long time. It didn't help with any pain and I had to stop wearing it because it hurt my mouth more. Many of us go down that road on our way to being diagnosed. But, having said all of that, if you do have jaw problems it could help. Have you seen a TMJ specialist or has that been suggested as a cause?

Jane

Tmj has been ruled out and I don’t have jaw problems…I just try to think of anything I can that will help! Lol . thanx for the info

That's good. I understand completely. I wore that night guard even during the day after I got it. My teeth were killing me and I thought maybe if they didn't touch it would stop. I thought I was doing it to myself by clenching or something. I am always hypothesizing about possible causes and cures.

I wore one for a year. It showed that I do grind a lot at night and I guess it protected my teeth from further wear, but it didn’t help the pain. I stopped wearing it when a bad flare made it painful to wear.

Yes I do. I used to think it made a difference, but not so sure since I've been having pain again.
