I just had my monthly labs done and my LFT's (liver functions) were very high again. All my life they have been slightly elevated never going higher than 50. Now they are running close to 100. They are supposed to be in the 30's. They have decreased my Tegretol because of this from 1200mg per day to 400mg a day. Huge difference. I started the Methadone which has been amazing in helping. I am not 100% pain free but I am able to tolerate things better and socialize with my friends again. HUGE PLUS!!!!! Now my doctors are cohorting and talking about that maybe the Methadone is causing the LFT's to be so high.
Has anyone who has been on Methadone or researched it had this problem. All the reading I did on the drug I seen nowhere that it affected the liver or LFT's.
I, for the first time in years, am able to actually babysit my niece and nephew or just spend the day and play with them. I am finally in a decent place with my TN and I am afraid they are going to take me off the Methadone. I know its silly but I finally have something that works for me.
I have not experienced this and have been using a low dose methadone for a year now … My doctor said it should not effect my liver or kidneys so I haven’t done much research on this. I’m glad to hear its helping you because for the long term on the right dose it is rather easy on ones system with little or no side effect. I do experience fatigue and use diludid 2mg for breakthrough pain.
I experience the fatigue too, but I did not think it could affect the liver or anything like that especially considering the low 5mg 2x daily that I am on. Thank you for your input. It gives mesome relief. Now it is just to find out what is causing the elevated lft's.
This is something which I really should research. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
The problem that I am having with Methadone is that 1) It is not effective at the dosages I am currently prescribed without adding an additional medicine for breakthough pain, and 2) My menstruation has stopped completely (This could not be health. I am not pregnant.)
I have to go get my children, and someone else's children due to school's closing early due to inclement weather here in my part of the country. Oh, I hope my pain levels hold out through this Brady Bunch of an afternoon, which will require me to speak more than I'd like. Speaking can bring on flares.
At any rate, I have not heard of this problem and would like to look into it. I have always read that Methadone is one of the easier of the opoids one's liver.
