I can't figure out why with 400 mg 4 times a day and trilepal 150 getting weaned on it ...this pain is still with me ...it's really getting on my nerves....and i'm a strong person...can't hardly eat, brush my teeth is killing me...i'm just about ready to go and call my neruo and get the procedure done....just venting...
Donna,
Hang in there. I'm not sure exactly how you're describing your meds but it sounds like you're taking 1600mg of trileptal a day. Is this your first medication? There's a whole lot more you can try before you get to the surgery phase. How long have you had TN?
Hi Todd..I've had TN about 7 months...i was on Trileptal first and it stopped the pain then i got short of breath went to the ER they changed it replaced it with Gabpentin 100 mg...it didn't work so she up the dose to 400 still no relief so now she add the trileptal back slowly...it's just crazy..i have blur vision which i don't like cause i'm a photographer so that pretty much out of the picture...thanks for the response Todd i'm just venting....this get old quit...
The low end of the effective range for Gabapentin is on the order of ■■■■■■■■ mg per day. Many patients don't find noticeable relief on this med until dose has been worked up to 1800 mg per day or higher. Max recommended dose is 3600 mg/day.
Just an FYI, Donna...
Regards, Red
I totally hear you, Donna. I'm on Tegretol, Gabapentin, Baclofen, and Oxycodone and the pain is always there, even the shocks are full blast. Wow, Red, my dr. says my 900mg of Gabapentin is a high dose. I knew she was off. I have a consultation with a neurosurgeon in 2 weeks. Any surgical option seems better than going through this.
Have you asked your doc about prescription lidocaine until meds are in place properly --- it is a lifesaver! They can just call it in for you!
Wow , that's alot of med's Bill..but what do you do when they just keep adding them....I'm like you i'm about to call my neuro and tell him let's schedule the surgrey....If i have it done it's going to be the Rhizotomy (PSR)...which i don't have many choices cause i have a brain tumor on the stem...so i'm limited.....I know they have 3 or 4 surgrey they can do for it....the meds them self can cause alot of problems down the road....Gabapentin well all of them is a risk of kidney failure....keep us posted on which surgrey you have....take care ..god bless
I think I'm taking too many things, but know if I drop or cut back on one, I'll feel even worse. I did that when I switched from Tegretol to Dilantin and I've never recovered from it. This is all scary, even the surgical options scare me. I'll know more when I see the neurosurgeon, who specializes in the Gamma knife.
I know what you mean i'm going down 2 daily on my gabpentin i just hope the trilpetal kicks in quick....i can't have the Gamma knife...i've heard it's awesome on this ....i do wish you luck...take care

Lidocaine is a topical anesthetic, primarily used by dentists, but also sometimes used with Anesthesia Dolorosa.

Thank you Red...i might ask about it...if it takes the pain away until they get these meds lined out...god bless

I've used the Lidocaine and it works great to numb everything so you can at least eat a good meal once in a while, but I always suffer after. Its worth a try.
Lauren...what is it patch or pill? I will ask my Dr about it...

Don''t live on pudding! :) That's not good for ya :)
I make smoothies with some nutrients to keep the vitamin levels and such up. Try my recipe:
- yogurt (any flavor)
- milk
- BIG handful of spinach
- handful berries (any kind)
- I add some liquid C0Q10 and liquid Vitamin D
- dice up an apple
- dash of vanilla extract
It's not an uber health smoothie but it's better than nothing. Enjoy.
Donna, where is your pain? Mine is 3rd branch only, under my bottom teeth. Feels like being stabbed with an ice pick when I talk or eat. Sorry you are dealing with this.
Donna, If I recall correctly (which is not guaranteed!), Lidocaine can be delivered either by patch or in topical creams.
