So more questions that I’ve never been able to ask of the TNers, I’ve tried just about all of the drugs and cocktails of drugs out there so far, but the 2 I keep seeing in the literature are ketamine and cocaine, now my GP looked at me like I’d lost my mind when I asked about sativex throat spray and told me he didn’t know enough about it, but that not a single person in my reigion was prescribed it and to speak to my pain doc, as it turned out, I got some other something that didn’t work at the time and never brought it up again.
But Ket and coke, are 2 drugs that I keep reading about and seem to have had some success but they sure aren’t drugs I want to be inviting into my life, I have difficulty enough in functioning on the tegretol.
I’d be interested to hear if any one has ever had experience of them for this, or if it’s confined to within clinical trials we hear about in cyber land?
Much love

I have heard about using cocaine, more as an injectable type of a block in the back of the throat. But i do not know anyone who has had this done. I have had several blocks done that did not help and they just said that I am resistant to them and that I am not a canidate and medical management is all that I can do at this point.
I have heard about trying to do a block, but I’ve heard they have to inject at just the right spot and likely several times and that it can result in up to a year of relief, however, it inevitably will return.
I haven’t heard about the use of ketamine. As for cocaine, I think almost all topical anesthetics, and many injectable ones, are from the “aine” family, such as novac"aine", but there are quite a few that don’t have the narcotic effect of cocaine. I had quite a few injections of something I assumed was novacaine but never got more than a few hours relief. My ENT would spray the back of my throat when he would scope me and I noticed getting some relief from that. But what’s all this fuss about cocaine. It’s as wholesome as Coca Cola
I’ve not had any GPN blocks done, when I asked my pain consultant about it she checked with the neuro surgeons at the hospital, and they came back and told her that they knew of no one in Scotland who did it, certainly no one would do a GPN MVD in Scotland either, and they were doubtful if I’d find anyone in the rest of the UK who would be comfortable in doing either procedure.
I know now that there are docs willing to do it in the UK, but I have a feeling they are few and far between!
Ah yes, the wholesome hearty treats of the cola empire, how far things have come! :o) x x x
