Is this normal

Im taking carbamazepine and feel spaced out and everything feels surreal I’m constantly tired then when the meds start wearing the whole right side of my face prickles and burns intensley not the normal sharp volcanic shocks is this normal

You should probably tell your neurologist about the effects the Tegretol is having on you. When I took the Tegretol, every time we increased it, I had an increase in throat pain.Mind you, it helped my with the burning pain I was having and jaw pain. But it was giving me other problems, so I had to ween off of it. He then tried me on Trileptal, and that is what I am on now. So I encourage you to speak with your doctor about this. Min

Thanks min I’ve only been dx a couple of weeks and my dose has been trebled and dr keeps increasing it I’m still waiting to see neuro and a facial specialist and not really felt normal since starting carbamazepine feel very low at mo

Biofuels… the normal taper-up on Tegretol is about 200 mg/day per week. What does are you on now, and what does your doctor want you to be on next week?

Hi I’m on 600 mg a day increasing to 700 mg tomorrow I’ve gone from 1 tablet every 12 hours to 1 every 4 hours and I’ve got to add another 1 tomorrow that’s in 12 days and see him again fri feel so spaced out takes me ages to focus on anything thanks

Most likely you’ll find that you’ve acclimated somewhat within a month. Even then, you may have some lethargy and cognitive issues. Many patients on Tegretol do. If it controls your pain, then it’s worth the tarriff.

Hi Biofuels,
I was always tapered up 200mg every 4-5 days with Tegretol. All the feelings you are feeling remind me how I felt the first few weeks on Tegretol, it takes time to find your therapeutic level, and everytime you increase you are adding a few more days of feeling icky. BUT that being said, once you start to get relief of the pain your body will become used to the dose and those side effects should minimize.
We all react differently to the meds, so please talk to your doctor on Friday and mention how you’re feeling…you know your body best, I just want you to know that it takes time…give it a good chance.
I ended up switching to the slow release version of Tegretol and did much better on that.
You could ask your doctor…
Hope you feel better soon, (( hugs )) Mimi

Thanks everyone just be glad when I can function normaly again just want to lay in bed and sleep still that’s may be not such bad thing with the weather were getting at mo hugs all

hey there :) I experienced all of the above but only when my dose wasnt high enough, it felt like..half way to my regular pain was weird. :P
