Oral Surgeon diagnosed me with TN. Dr. put me on Carbamazepine. If I do it`s the Mandibular branch. I`m not convinced. I DON`T HAVE ANY PAIN UNLESS I start talking or I put even a little piece of food in my mouth and try to swallow. Spitting also causes intense pain, but I CAN SLEEP ALL NIGHT, WATCH MOVIES, or type this letter with NO pain. Is this normal? Tried Oxcdn W APAP and 600mg Advil at same time because pain was so intense but no relief. 3 Carbamazepine pills so far nothing. Can't eat. Sucks!
Sorry for my online skills. I am a novice. What is the difference between Blog Post and Discussion?
Yes, very normal, but we all can have variations and there are always exceptions to the rule. How long have you been on the Carbamazepine? If long enough to build up in your system (4-6 weeks) you should ask your doctor to try something else. The Carba didn’t work on my pain and gave me a severe allergic reaction (as did three other meds) but Gabapentin/Neurontin works great for me. Sometimes you have to keep trying until you find one that works.
Your Oxy doseage may also need tweaking.
Best of everything and keep us updated.
Sounds very similar to myself when I have a flare up. As long as I'm sitting doing nothing, it's fine, just tingling like a shot of novacaine. But eating, talking, brushing my teeth, lying on that side or even having my hair brush against the side of my face causes intense, almost unbearable pain.
When I first began with TN the only times I had an attack was when I got off my push bike! Work that one out! Then the attack became more regular. I put that down now to the cold air and the clenching of my jaw. In the house I was fine and then the attacks happened in doors too.
My undestanding of the site is - This page is the discussion page everyone will see it. Your own home page only people who look at that will read it, you can message someone in particular and they can reply on that page. If you have joined a group, you can blog on that and the people who are also in that group will read it and reply. Hope this helps
Talking and eating are my pain triggers. Can't eat sweets at all.... I have no problems sleeping. In fact, sleeping is my escape from the pain because as of yet, I have not had an attack while sleeping.
My symptoms are simular. Can't chew/open mouth, talking, moving tongue period, then ear, jaw I was diagnosed 12-14-11 and started carbamazepine 600mg and 325mg asprin and now up to 1000 mg and no asprin. I am pain free and flakie but alot better. I sleep like a log and laying down relieves me. Oh, and no headaches. Give it time.
yes, this is all very common. I was on carbotrol 600mg -800 a day depending on the pain...then after 2 years decided that i was going to have the surgery and to this date i have had no regrets..take care
Blogs are basically your own personal diary that you record your journey, thoughts and experiences.
Discussions are when you are soliciting information/feednack from others.
Everyone can comment on both, depending on your privacy settings. The blogs and discussions are kept in separate areas of the site.
