Introduction Remission and Relapse

I got ATN in 2013 after dental work. I took Lyrica for one year (highest dose was 200mg a day). Then stop Lyrica went through horrible severe withdrawal for one whole year.
Then I went into remission for one year (2015) until a dental hygienist use a rough ultrasonic cleaning which I never had before; and this trigger my ATN type 2 which I am dealing with now.
So, I did have a remission with this type. It is possible but not alway the case. I am hoping for another remission.
But this time is not as bad as the first time.

May I suggest getting a pill box that has morning, noon, afternoon, and bedtime dose boxes. That is if you don’t already have one.

I hope you do have another remission and soon!! I just have never heard of ATN going into remission and I am glad it did for you.

So tell me Linda what do we do about going to the dentist. Do we get cleanings, dental work, etc.? I haven’t been to a hygenist for over a year and need a checkup. I’m avoiding them for sure.

During my remission I saw a dental hygienist twice for routine cleanings and had no problem. But on the third cleaning the dentist office switched me to another hygienist. She use an ultra sonic cleaning which was like pressure washing my teeth. I have never had this done before. I actually thought when pain went away a year before that I was healed and did not have ATN. I was wrong. I floss every day and use a oral B electric tooth brush and I always get excellent reviews from any hygienist and the cleanings are brief.
I was going to quit going all together because of ATN but read from one member here not to do that - it cause more problem in the long run.
I not sure what I will do if I have another remission.

Yes-please let us know

You know come to think of it one of the worst flares I ever had was after an ultra sonic cleaning. It was pitched to me as more general then traditional but the flare was so bad I didn’t go to the dentist gin for like three years and when I did go it was to a different one who just happen tobdo traditional cleaning, no flare that time. Now I’m wondering if ultra sonic is the issue!

It was too rough. I would have stop that hygienist but I was in my remission, and I thought my nerve had healed and I didn’t have ATN. It came back 2 days after that cleaning. I have had 2 regular cleaningr during that same remission and no problem from them.
