Hi, Shirley,
Hemicrania Continua is thought to be a primary headache disorder, different from facial neuroalgia. There is unfortunately no record of effectiveness that I know of for indomethacin against facial neuralgia or neuropathic pain -- though I recall that this med is often highly effective against migraines.
Dealing with the face pain itself, the standard treatments usually involve trials of the anti-seizure drugs (Tegretol, Trileptal, Neurontin) and/or tricyclic antidepressants which are co-active against neuropathic pain (Amitriptyline, Nortriptiline, others among a group of 10- to 12 meds). Other drugs may be added to your therapy to boost the effectiveness of these primary meds: Baclofen, Lyrica, tranquilizers, NSAIDs, or in some cases the opioid drugs like Percocet, Dilaudid, or even morphine sulfate. For some people, the opioids are the only effective measures to stop the pain, while for others, the opioids are not effective at all. We really don't know what distinguishes patients who have more successful outcomes. So it's a trial and error business.

Hi Shirley, just to add to the comment. I also have a doctor who is thinking that I might also have Hemicrania Continua in addition to ATN, and that when the ATN is a bad day, it really just amps up both the ATN pain and the Hemicrania Continua pain. They are starting me on the Indomethicin in addition to all the regular ATN stuff as well. Will let you know if the Indomethacin helps at all for the non-ATN stuff (course it could also be Cluster Headaches, or just plain ol ATN being extra strong).
I guess if there is Hemicrania Continua the medicine is relatively benign compared to the TN/ATN drugs, though like TN/ATN it is another rare-can't-diagnose-definitively-can't-cure neurological condition, what are the odds! Need to play the lottery more often :)
