Pacey I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but no, I’ve never seen statistics that establish a reliable record for people going off meds and no longer having pain. For people who have had a mixture of typical and atypical TN symptoms, MVD statistics seem to indicate that about half of those who have a successful MVD for this mixture will be pain free for at least seven years. But even that varies considerably between surgical groups.
Possibly the best consult on this subject that you can get would be Dr Ken Casey, whose practice is near Detroit Michigan, or alternately, Dr John Tew and his colleagues at a medical group just outside Cincinatti. Both have been members of the Medical Advisory Board for the US TN Association, and both are deeply experienced and compassionate neurosurgeons.
