I have just joined your forum and i have just started getting these horrendous pains and symptoms …ive never felt so scared
Hi Susan, that’s my name as well! I’m right there with you. Where are your pains located? Mine are in my lower right jaw. I get between 200 to 300 zaps daily. Diet plays a part for me as different foods can trigger my pain. My pain lessens when I don’t eat trigger foods. There are times when a day or two go by and the pain wasn’t there. Have you been to a doctor yet? Anyway I hope your pain gives you a break! Take care

Hi susan i have pain on the top my head and the zaps all over the left side of my face im scared to take tablets because of the side effects ove been awake all night in pain …i went to a and e yesterday and the doctor gave me tablets im waiting to see speacialist for mri scan …nice to meet you
That's interesting that you get 200-300 zaps per day. I often get hundreds of shocks a day as well!
But I think we are in the minority? I always thought the average number of shocks per day was much lower for most people with TN...

Hi Susan, don't be too scared of the tablets yet. I was also scared the first time, and actually I had A LOT of drowsiness and tiredness the first time I took meds. I was so disappointed. However, now surprisingly I have very few side effects if any at all. Perhaps the body adapts.

Naproxen are the named tablets i have has anyone had them before…
Looks like thats an anti-inflammatory. thats not a first-line treatment for TN. A neurologist will usually prescribe you an anticonvulsant such as carbamazepine or oxcarbazepine, or gabapentin.
I havnt seen the specialist yet im waiting for my appointment i went to th a and e yesterday and the doctor there gave me them …will they not help …im in such agony at the moment…thankyou knowpain
Good morning,
I would recommend seeing a neurologist ASAP. Tell the office that it is an emergency so that you can get the proper medication to treat TN.One full day on the proper medication your pain may subside and you should start to feel somewhat better. Yes there are side effects but you body will adjust with time. If you feel sick from the specific medication, they can change it until you feel better. There are challenging medications to take to for the treatment of TN but most of them work and help you live through the pain.
wishing you a pain free life.

Thankyou KM i will ring them in the morning …
