I have tried every medication had a spinal cord stim place and I still have pain, burning and numbness.
I am open to any suggestions. I go to the dr I also am coming to the realization I’m stuck with this. My nerve was damaged when I broke my jaw so there is no remission for me.
Any meds work best for anyone? I’m on gabapentin and take Percocet along with my stimulator oh and Xanax. I have been doing this now for 3 yrs. they have thrown every med at me. I also wonder I see a lot of people see a neurologist? I have a neurosurgeon and pain dr should I seek a neurologist?
hi Stephanie In my experience realizing I was going to be stuck with this was extremely hard being im a control freak....I had extreme pains all throughout my head burning tearing crushing etc I am now on nortriptyline 75 mg a day it has helped a ton with all those scary hurting pains I was having and it is also for anxiety and depression so it helps me with that also The neurologist was the one that prescribed this med to me yes but from all my studies here on the site I knew that's what pill I needed anyways. But you can get this med from any doctor not just a neurologist. And going to a neurologist was nothing special he did test on me to make sure It wasn't something else wrong which at this point I knew more then the doctr about Trigeminal neuralgia.
I will call my dr and give this a try. I also have crushing. That’s so crazy I was just sitting here trying to find the word for the pain I’m having and it is a crushing pain.
Thank you for answering me. May I ask how are you dealing with the day to day? Working social… I can’t plan anything and I try my best to go with the flow when I’m hurting.
Ofcoarse ask me anything!! Yah the crushing pain isn't only painful is extremely scary literally feel like someone is caving in my head I got it in both my temples, in my right side mostly on the bridge of my nose and in my teeth directly under that. Awful! Well when all this started I had to take a leave from my job of 10 years I was a server Not my dream job ofcoarse just kind of got stuck. But the leave turned into me having to quit I was in too much pain to do anything As I was just writing on another discussion I tried chiropractic for about 5-6 months with no success all the while researching the disease on my own. After millions of doctors I finally and tests I finally got to neurologist and he prescribed the nortriptyline which I already knew this was the med I needed from research on this site. I started this med exactly 1 year ago (on a sidenote you don't need a neurologist to prescrible this med u can get it from any doctor) I lead a mostly normal life now but my life is definitely different. I can even workout again which is one thing I love doing.
And I also meant to put in that this pill helps with anxiety and depression. Ive has generalized anxiety disorder all my life so Its helped me a lot with that and all the changing of my life TN has brought me..
I would love to run again. I’m happy it’s helped you so much. I will give it a try. Any crazy side effects?
the worst one for me is dry mouth I have to carry water wherever I go even when I go running I carry it too. But compared to the pain its no biggie ...
I have neuropathy not neuralgia explained by neurosurgeon today. They have the same symptoms, but mine won’t get better
I really want to exercise. I was a Pilates instructor. Damn I miss exercise hell I miss my life. I was a ff/ medic best job ever! Learning to live with this is a struggle on its own.
This sight has been a gift.
