First signs and symptoms of TN

gazuk- it is likely anxiety, but you should see your doctor, especially if you have a familial history of MS.

vesper

hi vesper, do you mean that this whole condition could be anxiety or just the tingly/itchy feeling? because i have read that anxiety can also cause sharp pain to the face and over the body and a whole load of symptoms =[and all these problems have only started after my ex left me and i have been really down since =[

gazuk- your bodily symptoms could be from anxiety. however, it could be something systemic, particularly if you have a family history of any auto immune disorders. see your doctor soon for peace of mind.

sharp facial pain is not usually caused by anxiety.

hey i have an appointment booked now for monday 20th feb

Good Luck with your appointment, tell your doctor everything, write it down before you go as its so easy to leave something out! You should have the results of your blood tests back by then too.

hi =] i had my blood test today, will a blood test pick anything up? nurse said if i dont hear anything back within a week then everything is fine.

blood test will not show up TN, just depends what the Dr ordered for other stuff.

Gaz My blood test showed I had high levels of inflammation (which was another condition) so if it is clear it should rule out those vascular conditions. (it is standard practise that those are usually tested)

When your at the Doctors be sure to mention the history of MS in the family as that should secure you an MRI scan which will be useful for the TN.

How are you at the moment?

hi elstep, thanks for info, im ok at the mo just havn't really felt myself since that shock feel abit sickly but i think its prob to do with anxiety etc because i dont know whats going on inside my body and wondering what my future is going to be like =[ but no other shocks of pain since last wednesday

I have learned that I have a type 2 TN. It began as an ear infection which moved into the maxillary sinus. This was Oct. '07. I have been trying to get it diagnosed/treated since then. This site has been of terrific use! I wish I had fouind it sooner.

Most mornings I wake up feeling ok. By late morning or early afternoon, I have some tingling in my left cheek or eyebrow. Once in a while it is pain that begins near my left ear After a bit they connect and begin to ramp up in intensity. Neurologically I test fine. It's too bad I've stumped so many doctors who seemed promising :(

thats good news Gaz, its natural to feel anxious but try not to worry too much about the future, take one day at a time. it may also be worth asking the doctors if they have any cancellations to let you know as your anxious about your symptoms and they may fit you in before the 20th!

Hi
Mine started with a sharp pain that lasted about 5 minutes that woke me up. Thought it was a tooth that was bad. Continued all during the day, sharp pain and then nothing. Kept getting closer together. Went to dentist and had xray and it wasn’t a tooth. Went to endodonist to confirm. Regular MD finally said it was TN.
Good luck.

Sorry you have to deal with TN but glad you found the best site on earth to get information and support. I have never heard of TN symptoms coming gradually or subtly. They are always a surprise and dramatic. The shocks are one of the symptoms, but any symptoms that become chronic, can also be the first pain. If someone's pain is mosly burning, that could be the first. Mine was stabbing and shocks. Unbearable headache is another one. It was about 2 weeks between my first and second attack. Best wishes as you start out on finding the remedy that is right for you. Don't give up after just one medicine. There are so many combinations of meds that can be tried, and different dosages that can be tried, so don't give up! Since yours is on both sides, it means you have type 2 or atypical. The surgery that many consider doesn't help people with bilateral TN, and rarely helps with atypical TN. My province here in Canada even stopped approving the surgery, I think its because so many of the patients were atypical, so the success rates were very low.

Best wishes to you!!

Sheila

hi everyone, i went to doctors this morning and told him my symptoms and my dad has ms etc and he said that it is just a nerve pressing against something sometimes when you eat as it happened both times when i was eating and he did know about TN but didnt think it was it and said that it can happen sometimes and not be neuralgia but he said if it starts happening a few times a month or more then come back. but i feel a little happier knowing i have been to doctors and talked about it. also my blood test showed something abnormal with my liver though =[ got another blood test booked in 4 weeks

So pleased for you Gaz. With regards to your liver hope you have not been drinking too much!

thanks =] i dont drink much at all so dunno lol =[
