Facial Pain Classification System - Very Interesting to ATN patients

I think someone has posted this before, but I was refreshed to read that someone seems to understsand that ATN is not ATFP.

Well that just makes me mad! No one will want to admit they have atypical TN after reading that! They will all change to TN2. This pain is NOT psychological! GRRRR!!!

How are you getting that notion. The 2nd Classification down refers to ATN, or Type II, as they call it, which is ATN.
It reads:

Trigeminal neuralgia, type 2, (TN2): facial pain of spontaneous onset with greater than 50% as a constant pain.

Perhaps you are reading the decription at the bottom of ATFP, not ATN, or Type II:

  • Atypical facial pain, (AFP): pain predominantly having a psychological rather than a physiological origin.

The second classification is of ATN, or Type II and reads:

Trigeminal neuralgia, type 2, (TN2): facial pain of spontaneous onset with greater than 50% as a constant pain.

You see, they are not saying Type II is all in one's head. ATFP is oftentimes thought to be so. That is why it gripes me that so many ATN patients are diagnosed as ATFP patients.
